Chainsaw is too heavy for melee, I see it more as a trope, than actually useful.

Frying pan? I wouldn't like it to be too stupid like Dead Rising though some of the melee weapons on that are pretty good. Would love to throw say a metal spike and have it impale the zed and they would continue to walk around with it stuck in them, same with multiple arrows from a crossbow.

That's a perfect reason to include them IMO.

Imagine watching folks heaving a chainsaw around, only to get it caught in the cotton shirt of the first zed they attack.

Flamethrowers would be in the same boat.

Zeds running like crazy, trying to rip you to shreds. You spray them with your flamethrower, thinking your cool as fuck.

Then you get your ass kicked by pissed off, flaming zeds.

In a non-gun owning country you may find yourself having to improvise a weapon of sorts in case of a zombie upheaval.

If all i've got in reach when some infected tosser bursts into the room is a frying pan that fuckers getting beaten harder than a total bastard of an egg.
