Comparison of DayZ Weapons For New Players

Recommended Posts

G17 is a 1-shot drop on any Z within 100m with some practice.

Any Zs much closer, and, well something very wrong has to happen for you to find yourself in that situation. Retreat if you have to.

If you are out to kill players, well good luck with all that anyhow.

I run into the nearest building to slow zombies down and stop players from shooting me while I'm distracted.

The Lupua, out of all the sniper rifles in DayZ, would be my 2nd choice in real life; semi-automatics don't have the same proven reliability and service record of bolt-actions. The .338 magnum was designed for a rifle designed for counter-terrorism.

If I had an epic zombie-proof base and all the material required, I'd choose the M24 and convert it between .30-06 and 7.62, depending on what kind of ammo I had around.

Good thread.

It seems like you say every one of them (except M9SD) is bad LOL. I'd go with the G17.

You should ad the fact that G17 have a flashlight. Can be helpfull something (like to scare the shitout of somebody)

But I like the m1911 more since you can refill your mag. with the revolver bullet and that help. I never have amost empty 1911 mag on me since you can switch your amost empty one (2-3 bullet) to revolver and back to m1911 and give the 2-3 bullet in an other mag, So you save place and you don't borther having many amost empty mag.

I brought up the MW2 as an example of an opinion that was biased for a stupid reason. I wasn't trying to say that CoD should be your ultimate firearms reference (though MW3's most powerful rifle, the M4A1, did make me smile; they finally got some realism points).

I've used various Glock handguns before, and I don't like any of them. An all-plastic exterior makes it hard to maintain and the lack of accessory rails/mounts make its usefulness dubious at best. You can choose flashlight or laser in real life as an underbarrel item, not both.

The M9 isn't incredibly better, but I've never had an M9 jam before-and I'm the kind of clutz that would drop his gun in a pile of sand trying to clear the chamber.

I've fired the Browning HiPowered and the Colt Python before. They're both loud and the recoil is intense. I've never fired a .45ACP revolver, however.

I don't use a pistol unless I absolutely have to, like a zombie is standing in the only doorway to leave a building. I won't go through more than one magazine every day, and taking trips to the airfields aren't difficult.

The G17 is functional and the PDW can accept 9million different magazine types, but I'd still go with the M9SD over all, unless I had a MP5K6SD or Bizon.

And yes, I'd pick the Bizon over the M4CCOSD or whatever the hell it's called.

I'm not sure what kind of 'real-life experience' you have, or what you consider to be a lot of guns that you've 'handled'. The M4 shouldn't be the most powerful rifle in any game. Realism points? Ok. I had to shoot a dog in the head with my M4A1 twice, and even then it lived for 45 minutes until our relief showed up. Luckily one of them had an M9 and they shot it in the chest which finally killed it. Maybe rabie infested Afghan dogs are just that badass, I'm not sure. What I do know, is that 5.56 is not a powerful round in any way shape or form. How is plastic hard to maintain? Plastic doesn't rust, metal does. Either way you would have to clean just like anything else, metal or not, there isn't much of a difference as far as weapon maintenance goes. Also, Gen 3 and newer Glocks all have a rail system. I lol'ed at the next part, "You can choose flashlight or laser in real life as an underbarrel item, not both." Not only are there grips with lasers in them that you can buy but I took the 2 seconds on google I needed to get you a link for an EOTech flashlight/laser combo.

It even has free shipping. By the way, it's the Browning 'Hi Power' and it's a 9mm. There is nothing intense about shooting a 9mm. Whatsoever. At all. The Python is .357 Magnum which still isn't anything outrageous. Maybe you just have weak wrists, I don't know. I literally made an account on this website so I could respond to this post. That's how ridiculous it is. You don't have to lie to be cool dude.

My favourite is the revolver as i think it looks cool, i like westerns and thus revolvers plus the ammo is plentiful and you can use the m1911 ammo too....and i got my first ever hummie kill with it!

I'm no friend of all this tables and wiki-pages about weapons. When I have to compare two weapons I need a FAST and helpful overview (most time on my smartphone) not a big table with useless information.

Thats the reason why I started the project DayZCompare, it gives you a fast, detailed and helpful comparison about two weapons and which one the better one is. Also for your mobile phone or tablet optimized.

Some more information: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/131284-tool-dayzcompare-a-new-way-to-compare-objects/

Here just an example, the comparison of the Revolver and M1911: http://dayzc.de/weapons.php?page=result&obj1=119&obj2=114

Best regards,

Lucke

Great topic and efforts by OP.

The guide is good, though slightly biased. How many beginners care if Glock is plastic and Beretta is metal? In fact there is no single valid reason to put M9 above G17 in this game.

The video looks somewhat unrealistic, maybe the server runs some ancient DayZ version? Just can't imagine on which universe the zombies drop from single 1911 round to torso. Yeah they should from a 12mm round, but on DayZ 1.7.6.1 they just don't.

Focusing on weapon choice, one should not forget the destination of sidearm in DayZ.

It is killing zombies with single head shot.

Hence, relevant features are:

- Accuracy (spread)

- Sights (field of view, pointing accuracy)

- Loudness

- Magazine size

- Ammo availability

Irrelevant or less important features:

- Damage per shot (any will kill with head shot)

- Firing range (the sidearm should not be used at distances larger than 50-70m anyway)

- Fire rate

- Recoil

My personal choice is G17 with M9SD mags.

The SD mags effect is very valuable for zombie infested dense spaces like cities or barrack / tent areas.

However, not recommended for beginners (scarce ammo) and roleplayers (non-suppressed weapon not heard by z's? WTF?)

For beginners, G17 with original ammo must be fine, just shoot from some range. Use zoom (right button or "+") when timing allows.

Why not M9SD? It is still heard by players. A bandit will be more cautious approaching a player with M9SD (as a player with such weapon is assumed to not be a beginner). But most importantly, it is a lot less accurate than regular M9, let alone the G17 which accuracy wise can be compared only to revolver.

New survivors gun guide in 30 seconds or less:

- Any gun is better than none.

- Pistol recommendation: M1911 good balance of power and magazine capacity and the ammo is everywhere.

- Rifle recommendation: Winchester (yes, I know it's a shotgun in DayZ) with slugs. 1 torso hit kill under 100 metres. Plentiful ammo and quiet.
