Usual cause of death: Bleeding

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this may sound stupid, but:

I started out on DayZ only a couple of days ago, but this one seriously troubles me, and I'd love to know if it is just my bad luck or common:

My usual cause of death is Bleeding. Spawning freshly, having no weapon and by mistake alerting a zombie and not being able to loose him - or being suprised while lying prone, you get attacked. Happens, all right - is it just my bad luck or is the chance for catching a bleeding right from the first attack somewhere between 50 and 80%?

It happened like that in my last dozen lifes - one swipe and I'm bleeding. And with only one bandage, the second attack (after running away from the first) is usually fatal.

So, is it only me or is bleeding (and bleeding to death? I thought, bleeding stops at 2000 blood?) way too "powerfull" (catching a bleeding and not being able to stop it) and the main aspect of killing new players who haven't been able to loot a hospital etc.?

Hi, I can tell you usually you don't bleed at the first hit, but it could happen, so it's probably just bad luck.

Anyway if you don't have a weapon try to not face them and to not stand in front of them, and find as soon as possible a hospital : I noticed the best way to recover blood is with a transfusion.

p.s. You might have already noticed it, but using bandages stop the bleeding.

Just have to avoid getting hit. Combine speed and stealth at the right times. The zombies in the mod are very dumb so it won't be long before you learn their AI behavior. Slow down a bit, keep your eyes open and don't get too close or get cornered.

No, this is a completely normal and annoying occurance, not bad luck. For instance: I once had a character in which I did not get hit by one zombie for 50 minutes, then got hit once, and instantly started bleeding out, and didn't even get hit again after the first hit. The chances of bleeding on your first to fifth hit are indefinite, and just something you have to be prepared for.

Carry plenty of bandages and food just to insure those zombies don't kill you. :)

You can find bandages in almost every building and on the zombies themselves. The best way to lose a zombie is to break his line of sight by either running closely around buildings, fences, and other obstacles and taking sharp turns or by zig zagging through trees. Alternatively, if you don't like running and prefer the easy way out, you can just hide in a bushy tree of your choosing. I prefer to run most of the time.

You main objective at this point is to learn how the zombies react to your movements, what distance they can aggro from, what causes them to aggro, how your various stances impact your visibility and noise, and where to find the mighty hatchet. Experimenting with zombies is really the only way to learn how they work so take some time to get acquainted with your new friends. If I'm trying to avoid detection I almost always crouch run or crouch walk. AVOID running and sprinting on hard surfaces such as pavement, stone, and even hard packed dirt as this will make a ton of noise and you'll soon have a horde on top of you.

Hatchets are found in barns and other industrial looking areas. They are by far the best zombie weapon. The machete is handy too. Find one, pick it up, open your inventory by pressing G, right click on the hatchet, select 'remove from toolbelt' and then you're all set. Swing away. It'll take some practice to learn it's range but once you do you're ready for more challenging areas.

Nearly all zombies will have some type of loot on them so it's good to check their bodies when hungry, thirsty, or in need of bandages.

Bandages are incredibly common pretty much everywhere, you must be spawning in kamenka or someplace terrible.

But anyway, bleeding is hardly a problem for my friends and I, and I don't think it troubles the rest of the DayZ community much either.

Also, 95/100 times my character bleeds on the first hit of his life.

I haven't gotten killed once for bleeding. To me it's surprising to hear this.

I know the zombies are almost impossible to avoid currently in the mod, but try to sneak past them.

Thanks for your replies so far, though I knew most of it already because I dug through several Beginners Guides before even logging in the first time.

But reading and being able to follow the hints are two pair of shoes.

I don't know, maybe the server I play on is bugged, but in the 10 hours I played now, I haven't found a single bandage (next to the one you start with), or a single morphine injector and not a single firearm.

All I found so far was a hatchet (and that thing misses most of the times despite the zombie hitting you), some soda cans, some ammo, and a lot of trash like toilet paper and razors - but that's it - and I went through many buildings in Elektro as well (empty server, only me one or two other friendly players) - nothing usefull, and neither on the zombies I killed with the hatchet.

Apparently, I really have bad luck in the game. :(

10 hours? Nothing? I could see that if you were wandering in the wilds of Chernarus but Elektro should give some pretty decent stuff with just one run through. There is no difference in loot spawns depending on server pop so maybe it is just a weird server setting.

You're checking residential loot spawns by the sound of things.

If you want a weapon, try barns, barracks, deer stands, ATC towers, hangers and fire stations.

No, you are incorrect. You far more likely to bleed upon first hit than the second, third and so on. The chance is increased, that is a fact.
