Customization for DayZ Standalone

Recommended Posts

So in the DayZ standalone game from what I've heard you will be able to choose your gender and your ethnicity. Thats freaking awesome and all but what if they want just a small bit further? No not full customization like Skyrim but purely your facial and head customization. Such as your hair, its color, eye color, etc. Yeah the bandit thats looking down his sights at you wont see you anything more then his next victim but it's one of those little things that I and I'm sure many others enjoy. Plus even my girlfriend loves DayZ (shes definitely not the best survivor), but she hates how the women have there hair in a bun all the time. So why not have the choice of short hair or long hair or having it in a ponytail. Although in a zombie apocalypse being munched by a zombie because it grabbed your long hair sucks but hell why not go out with style eh?

Long story short why not let us choose facial hair and the little things on a our characters face and head to give it a more personal touch. I also know that Rocket and the staff are paying closer attention to hacking issues and getting the basic layout smoothed out but we could even see this in an update, so what does everyone else think?

Like choosing the colour of your undies?

I wouldn't say going that far but in a sense yes, just the small things can sometimes be the coolest aspects.

Another example like saints row's character customization?

Yeah, that was off the wall haha, but you do get my point changing our characters to give it the personal touch. In my opinion maybe have realistic hair colors like black, brown, etc. Nothing like hot pink or neon green, keep the games realism haha.

would add more individual looking people

Thats another great point, and although you can find clothes and what not which adds individuality sometimes theres the choice between the personal touch and its usefulness. For example, if I'm playing and I find a kevlar vest for bullet protection but I hate the look, its the conflict between keep it cause it may save me or trash it cause its not appealing.

I know that was a terrible example but you get the point.

Actually a very good example. Crafting your own persona is just as important as killing in the long run, if you want to be renowned.

In any case, the individuality always serves to deter panic-shooting. When you don't visually associate killer to all survivors, you'll think twice about shooting, while remaining wary.

I hope that you can fully customise your character so i can be a midget or an 80 year old granny if i want to.

See although that would be hilarious it would also be unfair, if a 3 foot tall character is going against an average 6 foot tall character the little guy has an enormous advantage over the other guy due to his height. Thats why im suggesting only facial and head customization.

Just give the midgets less blood and they can't carry large weapons, and can only axe legs, so less damage. I just balanced it. Let's have midgets now!

As hilarious as that would be, I don't see it happening

But it would be awesome to be a sniper over electro watching a midget running around hacking peoples knees

You need to get a mob of players to streak, like a crowd of 20 people streaking in elektro with a bigger crowd of zombies chasing them. I can only imagine what would go through someones mind when they see this.

I just think that full character customisation could be used as an inbuilt difficulty factor that the player can give to him/herself.

Everyone could survive a few days with a young, athletic character that can run, jump, carry huge guns and the like, but try surviving as an 80 year old with a bad hip, who can only hold one tin of beans and a pistol to see how tough everyone is.

Big, small, young, old that's my idea of full customisation.

hey customization is always a plus with me and i don't think you can ever have too much. I want my character to reflect me and my tastes, plus with the whole world affected by you concept wouldn't you grow a beard over time? along with hair?

I was discussing this with a friend of mine a while ago and I was thinking.... What if how your character looked was largely random and you don't know how you look to begin with.

Brink sucked.
What really sucked was the fact that it could have been good.

It would've been better if the trailer was all that existed. The game ruined it.

If it was just a hyped-up trailer, Sergey would be making "Bronk" right now. And it would probably be an improvement.

ON-topic.

Customisation is always good. Everyone should be allowed to make themselves entirely unique, for immersion and recognition purposes.

It's not going to be top-priority, but I consider it vital in the long-term.

Another idea my friend came up with is some kinda face paint, like how football players have the black under there eyes. I think its a good idea but no camo cause that can give an unfair advantage but I don't know. I also suppose they could add crazy hair color, I mean if you want hot pink hair and stick out like a sore thumb thats your call.
