Pokerguy12 218 Posted March 6, 2013 (edited) Cherharus Plus should have more geographical featuresIn the dayz experience, i hold the notion that the most important component forming it's bulk is it's map design. When i say this i speak not only on my own behalf because i believe that at least a minor fraction of the community agrees with me. Think about it, despite all the clunky gameplay mechanics, terribly buggy engine, complicated inventory system and outdated graphics we all love to play this game. I believe that a big reason for this being so is because of the massive scale and design of the map which facilitates the space for this mod to be played in. It provides a truly massive and satisfying sandbox experience. Forests, plains, fields, towns, roads, lakes, human structures, hills and plateaus all work together to provide the player with this experience. The design and the scale of the map are such huge factors in the zombie apocalypse survivor's experience so i strongly suggest that the SA team should make sure that they spend excessive time and resources developing and refining Cherno+'s complexity, scale and geometry for the ultimate and perfect zombie world. You may argue that adding swamps, underground areas and more structures is a sufficient addition for the SA. While i do agree that this is a step in the right direction more, cherno is getting smaller, many if not most of the players have explored of cherno and know the entire map like on the back of their heads. We know the location of every town, we know where loot spawns, we know our way around every forest and road; i could go on .The problem with this is when when DAYZ SA is realeased and we play it for the first time cherno+ will feel like a stroll in the back yard. This will completely ruin the survivor experience. I think in order to make DAYz SA feel like a fresh new game instead of a mod with enhanced visuals, fixed bugs and an improved engine, ALOT of work has to be put into expanding and designing a new and distinctively different Chernarus V2 . BioHazard050 49 Posted March 6, 2013 I believe they may have made the map a bit bigger, and they added Utes near the SE corner of the map.
kannibalkiwi 7 Posted March 6, 2013 there's also a swamp thats been added and atleast 1 new town, look at the devblogs, they show these things.
Auslovich 48 Posted March 6, 2013 I like what they're adding, but more would be nice. Also, Chernarus+ is the map. Cherno is the shortened version of Chernogorsk, the main town.
Sakka 28 Posted March 6, 2013 I do agree with what you are saying in terms of changing adding more geographical variety including a flowing river. But what I would like to really see would be more variety in building esthetics and also more random areas of interest out in the wilderness. Maybe camps that are not player camps but more a prop setup that could be used as a camp. Also I would love for there to be a crashed plane underwater in one of the bigger lakes. Not sure you will be able to really swim in the stand alone though.
Hetstaine 10852 Posted March 6, 2013 Not a bad idea :) I was hoping in the future that they could majorly add too and upscale the Northern side of the map into a namalsk type freeze your ass off area. A 6-8000 foot mountainous region with a major town on the other side. Definitely flowing rivers at some stage and more variety in buildings would be a bonus. willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk 506 Posted March 6, 2013 Hopefully with all the new enter able buildings the map will become larger again: I'll give an example of what I mean. So, you run past, say, Lopatino. I say Lopatino because it has about 2 loot spots in the whole of the town, and as such, you are going to spend about 2 minutes looting it because there's no need to waste any more time there. Then you would head on to somewhere like the NWAF or Vybor. Now, if every building in Lopatino was enter able, there'd be a good 20 buildings or so to look through of varying sizes. Currently, as you know, loot spawns in little piles on the ground so it's very easy to run into a building, grab something and go. Also, zombies are broken in buildings so it's easy to get away from them. When the loot is hidden and has to be properly scavenged, as Rocket mentioned in a devblog, you are going to have to spend much more time to find worthwhile things in a building. So, rather than 1 minute looting a house, maybe you'll spend 3 to 5 depending on the size of it. For a small village like Lopatino that turns a 2 minute affair into something more like a 40 minute job, and with the improved zombies you'll have to be on your guard a lot more. What this does is add a TON of playability to a huge area of the map that basically no one visits as it is currently pointless. People frequent only about a third of the total map: the Cherno-Elektro coast and the Stary-NWAF strip. By making it more viable and giving more incentives to visit the villages, you are expanding the total area in which players operate and as such the map will feel MUCH bigger, as you are moving generally much more slowly around Chernarus rather than hopping from empty village to empty village. I'd love for looting a mid-sized town like Zelenogorsk to take a good hour or so. That's the kind of scale I'd like.Just my theory. Please say if you disagree. Hetstaine 10852 Posted March 6, 2013 So what you are saying is i have to get the fuck out Lopatino before the new wave of excited looters hit my home town ?
willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk 506 Posted March 6, 2013 So what you are saying is i have to get the fuck out Lopatino before the new wave of excited looters hit my home town ?Why would you even have Lopatino as a home town? It's a death trap. All I can say is run, Forrest. Run.
svenbreakfast 231 Posted March 7, 2013 I'm glad they are just upgrading the current map. I love this fucked up little country. That said, I'd be shocked if there were not more maps in the works for the SA down the road.

willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk 506 Posted March 7, 2013 I wish the map was way bigger than the actual chernarus that we have now. You'll get another one later on in development. Personally, I'm really excited about the idea of a large Western city, which Rocket has already expressed interest in.
mick17 93 Posted March 7, 2013 Chernarus+, from what it sounds is going to completely change how the game is played. Its gonna take forever to loot every biilding in everytown. Then there are the the cmpletely brand new placed they made. Utes is also going to change coastal play allot. There is an airfield and at few town on the island from Arma II. With graphical changes you will feel like you are in a familiar place, but it will be so different. I'd love to see a river with multiple streams that flow into it making it larger and larger as it flows to the ocean. It would start in high mountains way to north that would require amazing cold weather gear to climb or something.
