Arma3 Alpha release potential Impact on Dayz Mod/SA

Recommended Posts

Hello there

It DID feel like an invasion, I understand your point, but it didnt appear to me as though the DAYZ players drove any one away.

Yes, pehaps pub servers were mobbed, but as in dayz, pub servers have been a bit of a mess due to tker's (twats) anyway for a loooong time. The best place was on a private server/lan

I feel MP for arma was already on it's way out apart from the hardcore crowd, especially with the advent of all the ACRE necessary servers. As an engine it was starting to creak.

Perhaps DAYZ coincided with the death of traditional arma, but one has to admit the influx of cash bodes well for arma users as well as dayz players.

I don't think we'll ever agree about dayz impact on arma :) but that's fine, I just dont think Dayz destroyed it. Perhaps was the coup de grace but not the main reason.

Arma 3 will see an influx of "kids" but that's been the same with every new release since ofp. (excepting VBS). I think you'll still be able to find your mil sim fix, its just it will be side by side with other game types ie dayzesque mods.

Remember the days when folk thought domination and (damn i forget the name) were kiddy maps due to respawn? Times changed.

I think a3 and dayz SA will change everything again.

And not for the worse.

Played it for a few hours last night and it does look very very pretty. However underneath the glossy polish its still a true Arma game. Now that's not a bad thing, Arma's brilliance gave us DayZ and so many more mods. However while I shot at pixels off in the distance, climbed hills to battle foes over Helicopters it was plainly obvious how much more than Arma, Dayz is. So for me, while I'm loving Arma 3 alpha, i personally will love the Standalone that much more.

Also as I've said earlier, I see this new Arma 3 map being an official DayZ map dlc in a year or so. :)

You haven't seen the bigger ARMA 3 map yet, Daz. ;)

If someone ported DayZ over to ARMA 3 I'd definitely try it out. I'm loving all the little changes that have been made since ARMA 2 (not just visually...) and what they would bring to DayZ mod. An ARMA 3 mod would be full of the same problems that the ARMA 2 mod has suffered from though, and for that reason - DayZ standalone > all.

......... Dont get me wrong the SA looks great, but nothing beats arma. ......

amen to that!

... preorders to get into alpha isn't really my cup of tea....

yep, paying to get into an alpha killed it for me, as much as I would love to get into A3... I can just wait .

People keep talking about Arma3 as if Stratis is the only map (it's the smallest one). This is just the alpha, there is much more to come.

So paying for an Alpha then getting the final game chucked in (at almost half price) is a bad thing.

I would have thought BI would have demanded that DayZ SA be brought out as an expansion for ArmA3. The popularity of the mod, even in it's current, rather sketchy (but really good fun) state would be the kind of bump that even EA or Activision could only dream of. The A2 engine is a few years old and I would have thought that any developer would want to be using the most up to date technology available. I would like to see more complex and believable environments and the possibilities they would create and I imagine this would be easier to do with A3 than by wringing the last drops out of a relatively old piece of software.

This is by no means a criticism of team who have given me a game that i have thoroughly enjoyed forthe past 6 months or so, I just think that more powerful game engines make for more possibilities, and hence more fun, in games.

I think you need to read the devblogs. You seem to underestimate what it it they're doing with the SA. It's not just the mod polished up a bit. Even the player skeletons used will be more advenced (newer) than the Arma 3 ones and that's just for starters.

Having bought Arma3 I'm loving it. And tbh I don't want to see DayZ ported over.

The SA is coming and that purchase is dependent on Rocket sticking to his original idea and providing he does not remove weapons or make it easier just to please a few teenagers who are not willing to learn I'll get it, however if I see the same shit that has went on in the mod with weapons being removed then I'll stick with Arma3.

The current state of the mod is a mess, the community is split all over the place and I've completely stopped playing because of the updates.

In my opinion, i think BI released Arma3 early to earn more money because a lot of dayz fans will buy it and the standalone. I think that the SA will be awsome, im interested in arma 3, if they do port the DayZ mod i will be a happy chap even if the dont Arma3 its self is a good game espicially for an alpha.

Arma3 should have no impact on the SA, we have all beem amped up for the standalone.

i didnt even know about arma3 since yesterday when my Dayz squad asked if i wanted to play it.

Standalone for the win!

While i haven't read all of the devblogs, i have had a quick browse, but I think my point still stands. They are doing great work and I'm in no doubt that they will create something special, but unless BI are really messing up A3, the new engine would give them greater scope. It would be like tuning a Mk1 golf GTI vs a Mk7 Golf R, sure you can get it to really shift, but all the advances in the underlying technology will outstrip it in the end.

An example of this might be optimisation for more recent hardware. A2 is an absolute nightmare in terms of its system requirements, and even i7 /GTX690 based rigs suffer from significant frame rate issues. If (and this is a big if) A3 is better optimised for technology that is available now surely combining the projects would make sense?

I'll still be playing DayZ Taviana, Sahrani, Lingor and possibly others (Probably not Chernarus) as A3 is only in Alpha, the hype will die-down in a few days/weeks then the true DayZ fans will go back to the DayZ mod (Whether it gets ported over to A3 or if it stays in A2 - either way I don't think it'll make a difference to the amount of players who will buy SA). Between the 'die-down' of the hype of the A3 Alpha and the release of the actual game there should be a window for DayZ SA to make its mark :)

DayZ SA better be as/more fluid than Arma3... I don't think I can go back to the clunkiness of Arma2 now....

It better be for sure. Right now it's still as hard as threading a needle to grab a ladder in Arma3.

I don't feel like it will have a big impact on expectations except for a few things like the smoothness of a3 and maybe a few features like the new stances (which are awesome and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for it to be in the Sa) but other than that a3 and dayz sa are two different beasts

I play arma for the realism, and lets get serious, there arent many realism-rp esque dayz players. Not saying there isnt any, but there isnt as many. After the influx of players that dayz brought, OA and more specifically, ACE servers got tons of dayz players. People just driving jets into convoys, team killing and ultimately dicking around made the server count dwindle. Aswell, I find it a bit sad that there were arma updates specifically for dayz that further took away from arma.

oh no dayz players use gamma goggles to cheat.... will fuck the original arma 2 with shit gamma/brightness restriction (patched in) making pine trees look black from most angles... just to fix dayz.

BI only see $$$ since DayZ

It is a race condition.

If the SA will take still a considerable amount of time before release, BI will automatically consider Arma III as base engine for the mod to maximize ROI.

I wouldn't be surprised if this option is already considered and Pro/Con being evaluated behind the scenes. Wasn't SA "almost ready" at the end of 2012 and suddenly pushed back with a generic (and risible) statement "it is ready when it is ready"?

Hello there

The release of the A3 Alpha has me rather excited. I expect we will see a hybrid of a2//toh/a3/dayz mod and some specialised goodness new to all.

I'm assuming there may well be stuff from the DAYZ SA development that will make it into A3 if popular/innovative.

We live in exciting times.

We need to bug their offices.

I bought the alpha today on steam, I have only had one little go, the chopper training and the infantry training. The latter seemed like I was playing ghost recon advanced warfighter?

The reason it's possible is because it's allowed. The game is made to have on the fly scripting. 'scripting' in Arma 3 would have been possible from the second the game was released.

DayZ is not like this though.

Correction, DayZ SA is not like this.

The beauty of Arma III and how much I am enjoying the new movement and weight of it has somewhat dulled my suspense for the DayZ standalone, but I am still pretty excited.
