Arma3 Dayz MOD vs Dayz Standalone

Recommended Posts

Yup, and so do the devs, that's why their rebuilding everything, it's not a mod.

DayZ mod on Arma 3 will have all of the problems the current mod has. There will be the same amount of hackers because they use the same architecture, and the same amount of bugs because there would be no access to the engine.

That's why DayZ standalone is being created. They can build a custom engine that prevents hacking, which they have done, they fix the bugs, make a new disease system, new AI, and new inventory that allows many more features.

Good argument.

I have to say that I'm finding it difficult to go back to* ArmA 2's level of graphical fidelity and technical prowess after I'd experienced what ArmA 3 has to offer. Seriously, ArmA 3 is amazing. I wish they'd make the SA using its assets. The island, the equimpment (military uniforms), the weapons etc.

Just feels like an unnecessary step back, you know?

*yeah, it's not the ArmA 2 engine but it will look the same and perhaps perform similarly as well.

Actually, they've already added many features from Arma 3, such as the lighting. The lighting is the thing that makes Arma 3 look so incredible.

Am I the only one who thinks the Standalone will not be the panacea to cure all Dayz woes??

Hello there

As you say the SA will not sleep with you or make the coffee in the morning. One has to be realistic as to what it will offer. It will be a great game I believe, but it wont please everyone.

You'll probably get a bullet somewhere and end up having your gasmask stolen.

I would think in a zombie apocalypse scenario there would be some dead soldiers and police officers about. I'm not saying everyone should be in camos, but it would be nice to be able to find military clothing. Besides, when was the last time you played a zombie game where you were actually a part of a proper task force (Resident Evil not included. That game is riddled with cliches)? I kinda want to play as a soldier that was or is a part of a task force, designated to combat the zombie epidemic. Or at least like in the 28 days later movie scenario.

It would only seem logical for someone to properly equip himself or herself for survival and combat (protection) and I can't find a better alternative than military clothing and equipment.

It'll also be using new player skeletons (newer than the 10 year old Arma 3 ones) and have many changes unique to DayZ SA that will make it hard to categorise as version 2.5.

Henceforth I will catagorise it is the Arma2.banana engine.

No, it will fix some issues, and reduce the worst hacking excesses. There will still be other stuff like the KOS mentality, and associated forum whinges, (maybe changes to mechanics will reduce this a little) the usual aiming hacks etc. Hopefully it will bring more deep gameplay and shiny things as well.
