Hatchet ingame is not a Hatchet but an Axe

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Today I asked my wife what is difference between an axe and a hatchet (I didn't know because I am not a native English speaker).

She googled it up for me (I was driving)

She said a hatchet is a small axe that is single hand wielded, an Axe is a 2 hand wielded Axe.

Ingame our character has a BIG AXE, and he holds and using 2 hands to slice zombies with it, so shouldn't it be called Axe ingame and not hatchet?

So it is.

Single or One Handed Axe, also fits the description.

Agree, but calling something a Hatchet (single handed Axe) but it is an axe actually is wrong.

I think DayZ should fix this wrong named item.

We don't call an AS50 an M4A1 do we ;) (just an example)

I was not disputing the error in-game, just commenting on your good wifes description.

Yup I have almost exactly the same type of Axe in my garage, its a wood axe not a hatchet

My friend continually called rocket "retarded" upon the introduction of the so called "hatchet". I laughed when i read this post. I think he would too.

Could I maybe get a 1 handed hatchet so I can hold a flashlight and a hatchet at the same time? Maybe? Please?

I Googled for "tactical hatchet", because I was curious to see if anybody had tried mounting a scope rail on a hatchet, and found these things, which look pretty nasty:

http://www.brownsafe.com/blog/top-10-tactical-tomahawks/

I actually felt a bit faint reading some of the descriptions, and had to have a cold shower afterwards. Of the Condor Tactical Rescue Tomahawk, the writer has this to say:

"The serrated back spike pierces sheet metal with ease, and works well as a hook for clearing debris or wreckage, while the blade is sharpened on the underside of the beard, allowing you to sink the head into your target and lever it out like a giant can opener!"

It's the gusto that makes it funny. The first comment actually points out that the tomahawks look like something from a zombie movie. I mean, can you imagine driving the blade of a tomahawk into a zombie's skull and then levering it out like a giant can opener? I could imagine that all day.

I'm going to strap that to the front of my car in Standalone and challenge a car dual with my friends. Should end well for me.

Yeah, you are right.

I want this kind of hatchet (Estwing-styled):

I have that very hatchet. If the hatchet was a secondary weapon with reduced damage output, it would make it more believable on your toolbelt, more versatile in-game, and less overpowered for zombie-clearing.

Wow that would be awesome if you could mount a pitchfork on the front of your car, then run over zombies, so the zombies get spiked by the pitchfork, you keep driving around with a zombie stuck on front of your car, sounds a lot like Carmageddon or was it the other game Quarantine

Quarantine (1994 you are a cab driver in the future, with mounted guns, chainsaws etc on a cab)

Carmageddon (1997, racing game, where your goal is to win, but you can run over anything ingame)

Good old times, no stupid media stopping games because they were to violent
