You got me, it's a lot ballsier to shoot someone who doesn't even know you're there than to risk your life in the hopes of stopping a player from going CoD kiddie and perpetuating the deathmatch.

If you like PvP so much, might I suggest Wasteland or vanilla Arma? Oh, actually, I think Call of Duty might be right up your alley. I think you would fit in with the community.

People kill on sight because they don't mind about teaming up with other players, as the zombies are no threat.

I rarely ever got killed by a zombie, I was more often killed by bugs and of course, other players.

I hear that being used a lot as justification. My question there would be, then why not team up so you can outnumber the next poor soul you come across? And then maybe that guy will team up too. Who knows, maybe you will get rolling in a group of like 5 or 6 and come across another group of 3 or 4. Wonder what would happen in that situation? Would they end up a group of 10 or 11 or would there be fallen to mourn?

From a multi player game design issue it seems to me that the only logical ways to stem kos (if you deem it detrimental) is to create mechanics that :

1 encourages cooperation through some sort of game altering advantage. ie.

Fear meter - when alone a weighted random chance to get status effects (auditory/visual hallucinations, shakes, etc)from prolonged isolation and danger levels (zombie horde). Being within range or grouped with players . reduces fear. Reduces chance for status effects.

Skill / item specialization - create a situation where a player can pick a single spec which allows them a perk to do one thing especially well. This could equate to spawning with a player specific item (nontransferable) that allows them to navigate, heal minor wounds with more common forageables, create food, weapon enhancement (mods guns to increase stats, could be damage % increase), create fire, weapon repair (if jamming were implemented) or any thing you would need or desire that you don't have that grouping would facilitate.

2 creates doubt for aggressors. Chance Ie.

Weapon jamming. A chance that your currently equipped weapon could jam. Possibly turning the tables on the aggressor through luck/chance and weapon health (amount of rounds fired).

No. That would break the sandbox concept. Each player decides to KoS or not.

I do not like KoS and I do not play in that way, but I would be against any built-in artificial mechanism to limit it.

I do not like KoS and I do not play in that way, but I would be against any built-in artificial mechanism to limit it.

Ok, would you rather have a game that isn't pure sandbox or one that eliminates the social factor completely, a lot of players' favorite aspect of DayZ, because nobody bothers doing anything outside putting a bullet in someone's head the second they see them? Because the game is headed toward the latter.

no I dont know the difference between to and too because english is not my native...and it as relevant to this thread as the fucking weather...

It is god damn pathetic how u internet kids always pull the grammar card as a last resort cos u really dont have the balls to say "hey know what, I dont like u...fuck off"...instead u choose to say "u wrote too instead of to haha"....wow that sounds lame dosent it

if u wanna discuss grammar that bad I suggest u start a thread about it...I also suggest u write ur posts on ur asscheeks and post them as pictures...that way it would atleast be entertaining

It really comes down to this: since it's a game, there's very little value on a persons life and there are no repercussions to killing someone.

I have spent a LONG time discussing WROL/SHTF situations with many a other on different forums, and can tell you with real certainty in such a real situation of a DayZ magnitude, killing others would have little more physical repercussion than it does in the game. However, emotional repercussions are much different.

I have killed survivors before, and been hunted down ruthlessly by some very very intelligent players. On the flip, I have had a member of my group killed, and have hunted people to the edges of Chernarus for revenge. Different can be said for killing and then having nothing happen because a group isn't well enough geared or is too scared to come after me/my team.

Of course, this argument excludes those players that play like Rambos'; going gung-ho at every turn to lose humanity, ditching all aspects of the survival genre, to play DayZ for what it really is, a fun video game. They cannot honestly be blamed. I cannot explain the gratification and adrenaline rush of mowing down a group of three survivors I have stalked for over 500m in Cherno with my M4A1 on full freakin' auto, only to get gunned down from behid with a Winchester 1866 (true story).

These aspects will always feed the KoS argument.

I have been around DayZ long enough to know there are more than one way to play the game. I have tried them all and (just like so many others) i have come to the conclusion that PvP is the most challenging aspect of DayZ.

And before you go all apeshit and start judging my skill levels based on what gear the targets are carrying let me tell you that it rarely matters what gear people carry. If they field Ghillie suits and AS50's in a group of 6 it doesn't make them good at PvP. What makes players good at PvP is being exposed to it so they learn through experience.

Lately i have seen a bunch of idiots that never learn... They run straight down the main street in Elektro and go from Fire station to church, hospital, school and store without a care in the world. Whenever i shoot them they bitch and moan and call me a looser who lacks the skill to shoot the "elites" up at NWAF.

But then, when i go to NWAF and kill the "elites" up there they in turn bitch and moan about me killing them instead of robbing them.

...

At which point i hold up people at gunpoint but they either turn and try to shoot their way out or they ignore or doesn't pay attention and i am forced to shoot them either way... AAANNNND.... THEY CRY.

The only conclusion that can be made from that is people really don't want to be shot at period, they want a no risk experience so they can gather all the gear in the world and hide a few hundred tents in the wilderness along with all the cars that exist on the map. For what?

To me it seems most players just don't get DayZ. It's as much PvE as it's PvP and if you focus on one thing only you are going to have a really hard time in DayZ.

And players have the tenacity to call us stupid kids who should go play CoD when in fact it's the other way around... Except they should go play Farmville or Farming Simulator 2013 because all they want is to gather more and more resources.

KoS is the product of many generations (in game terms) of skilless PvP. There are no real threats to those who have the PvP skills so they just about shoot anything that moves out of boredom.

DayZ used to be so much more.

You had squad on squad battles raging for weeks. People went out of their way to find each other and kill each other over some quarrel with some helicopter or looted/destroyed camp.

Nowadays you have a whole bunch of crying little babies who wants to lonewolf and farm gear and vehicles all day long without interaction with other players and a few who simply camp the coast looking for anyone to shoot at period.

This thread is nothing more than a nest full of ignorant skilless players who simply can't be arsed to learn how to defend themselves from other players.

Learn to PvP or suffer death time and time again until you rage quit.

I play the 'dumb' way as a fresh spawn, only to gather gear and pray I do not get shot, but there IS sneaking involved to minimize risk. After that, it is Northern for me.

People who think PVP is going to go away or anything like that should just fucking quit the game, not tell people who KoS to quit. The game is about freedom to do whatever you want to do, plain and simple. If you want to control someone else's actions, then leave, you won't find it here, people aren't going to comply with you. Sound familiar?

Look, I am on your side... I find newspawn killing or snipe killing simply pathetic. But that's not dayz fault (except for being far too easy on PvE/PvZ and providing way too much ammo and weapons), that's how certain people play, I don't.

You CAN have social interactions, but it involves a factor of risk, just accept it, learn from it when it goes bad - as much as I dislike KoS (not PvP in general) I agree that PvP is part of the game. It has to stay.

I run with them for a bit until they get some gear and if they're new I teach them the basics on the way. I'm hoping this will discourage KoS incidents and might show some bambis that trust still exists in the game. In the last month I've dropped my death rate from 100% to 60% so I'd like to think I'm having an impact, no matter how small it is.

That's great that you do that. And i'm not being sarcastic. You choose to play the game a different way, and that is your choice. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. But if another chooses to KoS then that is there choice and there is nothing wrong with that either. Everyone plays the game their way for different reasons.
