In the top right corner on DayZ Commander there is a tab that you have to open called Install/Update and download the ARMA 2 to the latest patch then do the same thing for DayZ.

A patch just fixes bugs and other glitches and problems. I think a 'beta patch' is a patch that isn't completely finished.
