lipemr 160 Posted February 24, 2013 what about, you know, HEARING the sounds? it's not that hard.casings on the ground would make the game have uber lags.
Uuni 74 Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) They really need to minimize the stress that servers go through. With everything handled by the servers and all the zeds & loot spawning at the start of the servers they gonna have a hard time keeping up with everything, let alone adding a giant amount of new entities in form of shell casings. Don't get me wrong, the idea itself is great but it's just technically too difficult to implement to make it feasible Edited February 24, 2013 by Uuni
-Gews- 7443 Posted February 24, 2013 Simple brass casses shouldnt be too taxing ,on that note bodies should stay in game for longer too.I honestly don't know how taxing they would be, but I know that it would cause some degree of performance hit and I think it's an unnecessary detail, so for those reasons I can't say I support this.If it would magically have no effect, then by all means, but not as it currently stands. Now I remember, I seen the shell casings on counterstrike. Now tell me that doesn't give you an edge to find other playas. I seen this in another came also just can't think of the name. This type of realism is used as a tactical advantage.Counterstrike can handle that because isn't nearly as taxing as ArmA, and the map is nowhere near the size of Chernarus. I honestly don't think anyone would be looking for shell casings on a map that is over 200 square kilometers. Players would be long gone by the time you found any, and wouldn't it be easier to try to spot a 6 foot tall man than his little two-inch casings?
Testwd3r235 2810 Posted February 24, 2013 Simple brass casses shouldnt be too taxing ,on that note bodies should stay in game for longer too.Its not really the size of the object that could cause the server to crash, it's the sheer amount of items that stress the server. Not only that, but adding in a couple hundred small objects can seriously affect framerates for players. madhellsing 31 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) Sorry I respectfully disagree. What can be done is also make them last an amount of time because I know there is servers that never restart them or are under managed. So to have the casings stay for at least an hour than fade away. Not realistic but is something that would help spot and make people. A good sniper or any operator would know.If you say that yeah it doen't matter, than you've got no experience man. Yeah you can walk right into the ambush. But if you see the casings specially in CQB building clearing you can find the casing and if you see 2 separate long rifle casing or handguns it means there is more than 1 person inside. Just an example thereSomeone that stays completely frozen in one position camping a spot would not make no noise. and people would just walk right into the death funnel. Now people use the zombies to spot a playa, so I think the casings would tell a more profound story and good intel. Why just settle man. All the worries about lag are fine, but no one knows how this new version will work but the developers. If you notice the new game has increased item and all around options. Hockeyguy 107 Posted February 25, 2013 As cool as this would be, I think it would be more of a hassle than it is worth. Servers will be more laggy, people will be more laggy, and there will be stuff all over the ground anywhere you go. If you go somewhere like the NWAF on a high population server you will see nothing but bullets on the ground. I would like to see this but it would just make to much lag overall. Good idea though.
attorney1977 311 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) I read in an interview with Dean Hall that 'staying brass' isn't on the menu for Dayz, but is in Arma 3.He was asked about that as well as blood trails (which I think won't make it in either). No linky unfortunately.EDIT:Here you go:http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?122794-ARMA-3-development-blog-amp-reveals&p=2291090&viewfull=1#post2291090 Edited February 25, 2013 by Horde
madhellsing 31 Posted March 2, 2013 Yeah I've seen the shell casings in a mod on arma2 actually. The blood from wounded would be boss on a game like this. It would make the zombies like vampires by the smell of iron in the air.I can't wait for arma3 man. I like making my own little one againts the whole spetsnaz army games. Great for PVP training. They should place it in I wonder what Arma3 is doing better to lower the lag everyone is talking about. I just don't see how people can judge something that hasn't come out yet. Now I'm saying this beacuse there might be something new like better programing and better servers. You know there is new server technology every year.
Snilex 40 Posted March 2, 2013 My question is, who would spend HOURS walking around watching in the tall grass where you can barely see tin cans even?A good idea but still a very bad idea.
Sutinen 635 Posted March 2, 2013 This would be a great idea if it didn't cause lag.
BSB Jimmy 360 Posted March 2, 2013 someone with an lmg could crash the server, not good

It could be found. Jimmy.Posted Today, 03:47 AMsomeone with an lmg could crash the server, not goodThis is why they could be a limit on the time so they could vanish on timing of the player who shot them and a time where another player that gets near could see them. You see where I'm getting at?
