The Day/Night cycle solution + ability to skip Day/Night

At the beginning of a new character you can select Day or Night. After creating a character you will only be able to join the selected cycle and then you can join servers that are currently running on the same cycle as you chose. There are 3 ways of changing the cycle that you have selected.

1: You die (you will be moved to character creation and everything starts again)

2: You login on the selected cycle, the cycle changes and you log out of the server

3: You sleep

The dieing part is easy, for the other 2 ways is an easier way for understanding below.

Character Creation --> Select Day or Night time --> Chooses Night time --> Able to join Night time servers only --> Chooses server --> Server becomes Day whilst the player is playing

--> Logs out during Day time --> Character will be able to join Day time servers only

OR

Character Creation --> Select Day or Night time --> Chooses Day time --> Able to join Day time servers only --> Chooses server --> Server becomes Night whilst the player is playing

--> Logs out during Night time --> Character will be able to join Night time servers only

---------------------------------------------

Character that is currently on Night time --> Gets the materials to create a sleeping place / Finds a sleeping place --> Starts sleeping

--> IF THE PLAYER CREATED THE SLEEPING SPOT ON ITS OWN THEN ALL MATERIALS WILL RETURN TO ITS INVENTORY --> Player gets disconnected from the server

--> Character's cycle will become Day time --> Character will be able to join Day time servers only

OR

Character that is currently on Day time --> Gets the materials to create a sleeping place / Finds a sleeping place --> Starts sleeping

--> IF THE PLAYER CREATED THE SLEEPING SPOT ON ITS OWN THEN ALL MATERIALS WILL RETURN TO ITS INVENTORY --> Player gets disconnected from the server

--> Character's cycle will become Night time --> Character will be able to join Night time servers only

EDIT: In order to create a sleeping spot you will need 1 tent, 1 campfire and 2 piles of wood...Instead of 2 piles of wood you can also choose 1 filled jerry can.

If you want to play in the daytime, get on a server that's currently lit.

If you want to play in the nighttime, get on a server that's currently dark.

I think that the cycle should just be shorter so you can play both day and night in one playthrough (considering you play less then 24h a day :|). That means the time in Dayz would have to go faster and would not match with real time, so the watch in game could actually be useful :). And if you join a nighttime server you just play for a couple of hours and it will be day. I think the night servers would be less avoided that way, because you know you'll get to the day pretty soon (or maybe just die trying).

Also the day servers would get more intense, if you are doing something more important then just killing people you would get that constant pressure that the night will come soon and you have to prepare for it.

I read topics about that eating duration should be longer and some other stuff. Maybe just the time should be faster and not to force players to watch their character eat for fifteen minutes.

I think I would really hate it if days were only like, and hour or two long. It's way too quick. Some people like to play at night, because stealth, and others don't. I wouldn't like it if I could only be mobile for an hour at a time, because I don't want to risk being seen in the daytime. Just pick a server where you are free to play in both daylight and night.

I'm not talking about an hour or two, more like 6-8 hours, so 3 to 4 hours of daylight, 3 to 4 hours of night. (personally i'd be fine even with 6h of night and 6h of day, so 12h for a whole day)

I'm not a fan of changing servers often, i think it would be best if we could have just one giant server(impossible of course)... I think changing servers that often is one of the main reasons for the lack of cooperation. Nothing is familiar, always different players and chernarus just becomes one large deathmatch arena.

If you are regular on one server (or a few) you may bump into one guy several times.. sure first few times you are gonna kill each other, but as the time goes on you'll get bored of killing and maybe cooperate.

My server doesn't have nametags. You won't recognize anyone, just cooperate with whoever is friendly, and don't KoS.

You got a well described game world, large and real, with ingame time, a real calendar, a lunar calendar, why dumb that down, because some people are afraid of the dark.

remove the only day option, remove server hopping, make retarded people play the game as it should be.

People that dont like to play night time are usually Ex-COD players who are actually the cancer of the game.

Actually, the way to deal with it is very very simple.

Shoulder mounted torch. Problem solved.

Another good item to add would be a head torch or a head lamp, the kinds that joggers use when running in dark woods. If there were mines or quarries in the area we could have mining helmets with torches spawning around those.

Exactly. All that we're really missing on this front are improved weather effects and real-time seasons.
