How about special events like meteor strikes? It would be like a bombing but there is a next-to-zero chance of it happening. How about blizzards in the colder regions? And when you fly during a storm, you might get struck by lightning.

Blizzards and the like are more possible the Standalone because of the new weather engine implemented from Take On Helicopters.

Other than that I can't say much. Maybe it's possible on the ARMA 2 engine, but it might also seem very shoddy.
