Heartbeat sensor alternative

Recommended Posts

Ok so me and a few friends play this a lot, and I for one am not a fan of the heartbeat indicator. Its....just annoying. A friend currently has 14 murders to his name and everytime I look at him I get the heartbeat sensor going off like a loud drummer!

Today we came up with an alternative. Dog tags. I know you're thinking COD / Battlefield, but hear me out.

Everytime you kill a player and loot the corpse you collect a dogtag. You wont be able to see dogtags, but you will be able to hear them. The more you collect, the louder the jangling sound will be.

So its not like a "collect"a"thon" and something to be proud of like in BF or COD. In Dayz it actually hinders the players making them jingle and jangle around alearting nearby players, and even more worryingly zombies!

However, if you dont loot the player you killed, you dont pick up the tags or the jangling sounds, but obviously dont get the rewards of looting the corpse.

Any thoughts on this? Just thought I'd share it.

I'd also like to say I love the 1.7 update. No problems with it here.

So what happens if I loot some poor sap that was killed by zombies or killed by a bandit but never looted? Or what if I kill a bandit...?

Yeah dead players you wouldn't pick up the sound.

Bandits would take the dog tag sound down, so killing them would reduce the noise.

Its an early idea, just popped in my head. :)

I don't think this is a good idea... noise attracts infected. I've yet to experience the new humanity "detector", so I can't really say if it is good or not.

Again, punishing bandits for being bandits. Something Rocket said he'd never do.

Don't like it - it punishes people for surviving.

Punishing the people for surviving' date=' seems legit.

Well were already being punished with a heartbeat sensor, and if you get close enough to hear it you're a gonner anyways......

Kill players and you pick up the noise....kill bandits and you dont. encouraging people to not shoot on sight ect.

This mechanic would punish bandits rather than players, making them more suseptable to zombie attacks. Unless the players shoot on sight....(but then you would be a bandit anyway)......

on a side note, has bandit kills been taken out? everyone I have killed lately has been a murder even if I have seen them kill a friend :S it must be annouying if your running with a group of people that do kill players ect...

I don't support this idea.

I also don't feel like Rocket is going to try and "balance" the PvP in the game with any sort of reward/punishment system, which IMO is great.

Kudos to you for braving the forums and enduring the incoming idea flame.

Isn't rocket already doing this somewhat with the heartbeat sensor? Its just a different alternative, which has a negative impact on banditry. (I myself am a bandit, so i dont have a problem with pvp). I just find the heartbeat sounds annoying.

I mean, I wouldnt hear my heartbeat in real life, but if someone was going round murdering everyone in sight and looting corpses, maybe his gear would sound a little louder as he ran/walked because of all the stuff he/she has looted? Imo, its just a little more of a realistic mechanic, rather than the heartbeat thing.

Im not bothered about internet flames either. Its just an idea. :)

The heartbeat thing is just another version of the bandit skin. If Rocket thinks that the skin was imperfect, then so is the heartbeat.

Not really a penalty, just an indicator of your humanity.

Yeah I agree with that tbh. I honesly dont mind either options. I loved hunting for bandits when the skins were on, and now I kill on sight if someone head towards me. If they dont I dont bother them.

I suppose what im saying is I dont like the heartbeat mechanic. I think its pointless atm.
