Adventuring into a town

Recommended Posts

I've already played dayz for afew hours and surviving outside of citys is simple. But I still find it hard to travel into a town without arousing too much attention.

Would any be kind enough to give afew tips about how I can get in and out of a town safley without a weapon?

Hatchets are silent weapons. Get your hands on a M9SD, M4A1 CCO SD or a MP5 SD and thing will get easier :)

Normally i simply rush trough the cities and loot very quickly. Make sure you dont get trapped in a corner/building.

Just get in and out quick, make sure you know the entry and exit your going to take so you dont get trapped, avoid players, you'll be fine ;)

I've been told that if i crouch run I will make reduced noise.

Is that a good notion?

Yes, you can see 2 icons on the right of your screen that indicate how good zombies can hear/see you. If you slow down your speed (LEFT SHIFT) or crawl/crouch zombies will take less fast notice of you.

What buildings from a disatance should I target? What has the good loot?

Most buildings near the cost will have your generic survival supplies like food, flares/chem lights, and low tier weapons. High priority buildings in this area would be firehouses(medium tier weapons) and general stores. Hospitals is you need medical supplies. IF you're going for the best of the best in the way of weapons, head up to any military installation and run around for a bit.

As a side note, apartments are the best for guilly suits.

Tips for town:

  • do not use guns on zombies! use an axe or crowbar. aim for the head. most times a head hit is 1 hit/1kill.
  • always crouch in town to reduce noise signature
  • use shadows - it works.
  • keep your distance from them and stop moving if they get close. watch the path they take, they follow a route back and forth, plan your movement accordingly.
  • keep a couple of tin cans on you and throw them to direct the zombies away from where you're going - it works.
  • when in a building, use a tin can as you leave to draw zombies away before exiting.

*flares and chemlights work too, but aren't abundant like cans.

When I'm in large cities I always run to become a harder target for shooters.

If I'm not detected by zombies I run crouched, stay on the soft grass if I can find it. If zombies detects me, I switch back and forth between running standing and running crouched to break line of sight as fast as I can, but also to lower my noise picture as soon as they lose sight of me. Cut through back alleys, keep moving to lose zombies, when you stop to loot something, learn to loot very fast and with your back against a wall.

Also never stand still when someone is pointing a weapon at you and never point your weapon at other players unless you want them to feel threatened. Get behind cover first, then you can ask if they are friendly without giving them a perfect target.
