Co-op Spawn!

Recommended Posts

since I started playing dayz i was wondering if it was possible to add a spawn mode that would make easier to rendez-vous with friends, maybe through a small lobby. Would be great :D

everyone's probably gonna dump a giant shit on you for trying to make the game easier, but I think it would be a good idea. As long as it's their first spawn after they die or something, not teleporting around the map because they are in a lobby. It's hard to find friends at the start and it's annoying when you just want to find them so you can move on instead of running around the coast making no progress.

by first spawn I mean if you all die you can spawn nearer to each other or something on the coast not after running from the spawn point though

What is the issue here? Someone just respawned and want to quickly join up with his/her friends located far inland on the map?

I remember Eve online had this autopilot function to navigate ones spaceship through alot of starsystems, perhaps there could be this feature that thad newly spawned players move around on the map somehow (on autopilot). One thing that seem plausible is having them picked up by a npc taxi or something, except for the fact of the npc's aremissing entirely and then there is ofc the whole incnovenience of being a part of a zombie/infected apocalypse, making taxing people abit risky. A nice thing here would be having the npc's the ability of driving player A, directly to player B, with no exception (lets pretend that the taxi was ordered by player B in the first place). Being a passenger would have you risk being assaulted by any other player along the way (and perhaps by zombies).

I think rocket said he wanted to add elements for teams but that was a long time ago, Hope down the line it gets dropped, every player in DayZ should have the same rules. Start alone

I can see your point though, most team players would like to spawn near each other and Bond and slap each others bums. ;) :D

He was talking about scarves and other marks like that.

Edit; As for OP:

From the it's-always-more-fun-to-play-DayZ-with-friends standpoint, yeah, the spawn system would be nice.

But from the DayZ-is-supposed-to-be-unforgiving-and-an-anti-game-that-doesn't-hold-your-hand-and-hates-you-in-every-way standpoint, no. No "co-op" spawns of any kind.

While the idea in theory sounds good, I think it destroys the apocolyptic feel of the game. I think part of what makes DayZ so interesting is how difficult the navigation is. Nothing was more satisfying to me than finally meeting up with a friend or two and going off on an adventure.

"I'm near stary".

"I'm near cherno, meet up half way?"

Those memories shouldn't be removed or distilled. I'd like to see some team dynamics, just not like this, especially if we start spawning away from the coast, which would be thematically stronger imo.

In my experience it's a LOT easier to get geared up when you're by yourself anyway.

If, by the time you meet your buddies, you've already got food/backpack/meds/weapons you're going to have less trouble than if you all spawn together.

Imagine there's, say, 4 of you. You need to find 4 times as much food and drink, 4 backpacks, 4 times as much morphine/blood/painkillers/bandages etc. etc.

You're going to struggle, and it's going to get you killed.

Also, more people together are more likely to draw attention. From zeds AND other players.

That's not even the reason I disagree with your suggestion. I just want to point out that it's not going to benefit you like you think it will.

IIRC aren't we getting stuff like gang tattoos?

I look forward to seeing how that turns out.

Regarding armbands/headbands, I think an ingame kit that allows you to upload an emblem to a piece of clothing would be good, and maybe easier to implement than creating armbands from scratch.

I can see both sides of the story here - having recently started a game with a couple of friends and had the utter hell of all three of us spawning on utterly opposite ends of the map, I can sympathise with the frustration of people who want to be saved the hassle of having to do nothing but run for up to twenty minutes just to meet up with their friends. It's a multiplayer game, so it's natural that people are going to want to play together - particularly those that are introducing a newbie friend to the game.

On the other hand, there's a balance issue here. Cherno and Elektro are already hellish enough for lone early-game survivors, without adding groups of 4-5 players who are likely going to shoot on sight anyone who isn't in their teamspeak. Chabowski also makes an excellent point regarding availability of loot - it's usually tough finding enough kit to tool up one person near the spawn points, let alone four.

Maybe a possible solution might be a server-side variable that could be activated on Private Hives?

If you already met with them you can rejoin a server then you are all close. But with teams spawning the whole idea of a fresh spawn beeing in danger and all is defeated.
