money and newspaper

Recommended Posts

I know money as currency is brought up almost every day

but money in this situation would actually be useful

coins could be used to distract

and paper money is even better

it can be used as TP

makes excellent fire lighters and in large enough quantity's and be used as fuel (good if they are going to make it harder to light fires in rain)

can be scrunched up and used to re-size shoes eg a size 10 wearing size 12

can be stuffed down a shirt as insulation (need alot of it)

the list goes on

newspaper has the same uses

I was about to yell at you about Rocket not wanting currency in the game. This I could see working, maybe also add using coins to get things from vending machines if they add them in? (I believe that's a real life survival tip as well, keep about $5 in quarters in case you come across an operable vending machine and dont want to simply smash the cover and make a lot of noise)

I like the vending machines if you could smash them it would be a little to easy to get loads of food but seeming realism is the name of the game why not

if we are going to have shitting in the SA I would love to be able to wipe my ass with a 50 lol

The idea of newspaper I don't know, in an apocalypse there would be none, and the one left I don't think you would want to use it lol.

But money is also something I would add, not in real money as in coins and bills, but maybe jewelry, when you loot a house you find such and such jewelry that could maybe be crafted for some car, weapon part, don't know. Or also use currency with packs of cigarettes, like in jail.

I have heard before people wanting a gun, and they offer other guns to trade, but maybe some kind of currency would be useful in cases like that also.

Just because there's no economy doesn't mean all the money disappears.

Even in the Fallout series (hundreds of years in the future) there's still the odd stash of cash.

I hope DayZ will fill the world with lots of useless objects. It makes the world feel more "lived-in".

EDIT:

@ Sinkatze - If there's going to be a player made economy, it's going to have to be based on what people want/need.

Unless everyone can agree on a unit of currency.

I doubt it though. Most people can't even talk to other players. The only exchange we have is bullets across streets.

I didn't mean add paper/coin money as the ingame currency, I ment just adding it in as another item as the OP suggested, something you can throw to distract zombies, maybe be able to craft a simple perimeter alarm with a tin can, string and some coins, or as I suggested, a way of getting canned soda or whatever out of vending machines without smashing them open and attracting zombies (A soft *thudthudThud* vs *CRASHclangclangclang*). Make them devalued as well, every zombie would have like a couple Euros/Rupules/Dollars/whatever on them so using them as player to player trading currency would be a moot point or it'd be like buying things in Zimbabwe Dollars (Or whatever South African nation printed so much money that a billion dollars is only worth like 50 cents).

i'll bring this topic back to discussion,

OT: absolutely add banknotes into the game and let us see what happens. this would be a very interesting social experiment!

and also a link to here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/124884-give-us-what-we-do-not-need-junk-and-unique-loot

you know. before ww2, the value of the Mark was 1/40,000th of a cent. it was more usefull to use paper money as toilet paper to wipe your ass or to start a fire. hehehe the value would be even less during an apocalypse

I really hope that will not be the case. Don't get me wrong I really want the world to be littered with junk, but all those junk items should have a use e.g. Paper money helps you to start a fire, cans to cook water, coins/bottlecaps/stuff help you to distract "Zombies" and so on.

that'd be the ultimate goal. but first of all why not introduce that "seemingly" useless stuff. later on you can focus on them and give them a real use.

As well as crafting items, I want absolutely useless stuff.

I guarantee you you'd struggle to think of a use for half the stuff in the room I'm sitting in right now. You certainly wouldn't spend time collecting it.

I picture digging through cupboards full of bits and pieces looking for anything useful.

I'd like "This might come in handy." to be quite a rare phrase.

Of course, you could throw objects to distract zeds. But that could be literally ANYTHING so it's a moot point.

EDIT:

As an example. Right this very second I opened the drawer in my desk.

I've found the outside of a Zippo (without the lighter) and a GameBoy game case.

Both could be thrown, but besides that they are both utterly useless.

EDIT 2:

Also found a shoelace. That might come in handy, so I'll keep a hold of that.

I love this quote so much it will forever live in my signature.

Anyway..

I do like the idea of having money scattered around the place; it has quite a bit of uses if you get creative.

While you've mentioned an interesting way of using money there are way more practicable things to do than search out large sums of money to use as insulation and re-sizing shoes.

Nice creativity though.

This game will end up with a currency such as the video game Moscow: 2033. I can use ammunition as currency. Too bad we do not have different types of ammunition for each firearm. I would love hollow point bullets in my Glock 17 when in a close-quarters battle.
