By browsing dayz code it seems to me that NVG glasses can now only be found at helicopter crash sites, making them extremely rare.

Has anyone found NVG in military objects (tents/hangars/deer stands) ?

That's the problem.

It means all the 'old' players who have NVG will have a permanent edge because now NVG are nearly impossible to get.

That's the same as saying that when someone finds an assault rifle, it's not fair to other players that have a winchester or an enfield...come on, that's just stupid. They're not gonna remove it, there's nothing wrong with it.

I often use roadflares in combination with smoke in these situations. ;) You'll see they are very effective tools!

LOL i have a hatchet its a serious advantage over a new spawn. its end game loot and extremely rare no problem with it at all all you need to do is chuck a flare and the person who has them is screwed for 10-15 secs.

No I don't agree, it's not the same as asking to remove guns at all, for most players NVGs go way beyond simply finding a decent bit of kit, they are essential. The problem with the advantage NVGs give though is they have a massive affect on the game, i.e. no one plays on night time servers anymore unless they have this advantage. For me this is a shame as Day Z night time is where a lot of the games key elements are enhanced. Removing NVGs would mean people are at least more likely to play at a night time. I'd leave Night vision scopes in still.

Why don't they just add different generations of night vision goggles to the game like there are in real life?

I'm pretty sure in a few countries anything above class one or two is currently outlawed.

Look harder, It took me 3 month to find some N.V.G's, I was under the impression DayZ made you search for loot.

It is an advantage but if you don't look, you won't find.

Players are going to be so let down in the SA when they find a pair with a bullet through them, requiring repair

Players with AS50's, M14's, M4's and MK48's all have SERIOUS advantages over people with hatchets. Are you saying we should remove them?

you can always stay at home (logged out) like in real life, i won't walk in the forest at night if i fear bandits with nvgs. and the same thing goes with the other ''advantages'' a lee enfield deals even more damage than a m4 and a whinchester incapacitates in one shot.if you lack of volume of fire you must stay quiet and don't run up and down apartments in cherno. it works like having a sniper rifle with no optics. hopeffully something that will happen to see.

i found really satisfying when ,low geared, i avoided death because i just watched from the woods, instead of rushing and killing a ghillie guy who ended to be waiting a ural full of people..

NVG are a massive advantage. Anyone who thinks that they're fair is a moron. Sure, an M107 is a big advantage. But give me a CZ550 found in any barn, or even an M16ACOG, or the less-rare AKM. Fuck, give me an M1911 and positioning, and I'll STILL kill the guy with the M107 with no problem.

But give me a FAL/NV and put me against a guy with a pair of night vision goggles on any map in the dark, and guess what? I'm betting that the guy with the NVG's is going to win 90% of the time.

the problem is, NVG's don't have 'downgrades'. There's nothing to counteract them. M107 is better than a CZ. But a CZ will still kill the fuck out of you in the hands of a good player. But NVG's: you either have them, and have this massive advantage, or you don't. You can kill a guy who has an M107 as easily as anyone else. But a guy with NVG's, on a night server? You need a pair of NVG's to go against him. Period. Don't even PRETEND that flares and glowsticks cut it. You can get the drop on them and still lose terribly. Even flash-light enabled weapons don't work, why? because by the time you realise he's there, he's known about you for five minutes.

That being said, yay for them only being in helicopter crash sites now. The barracks were the most-camped regions of the map for that very reason. And on that note, I've never found a pair of legit NVG's. Got some from bandits. Never from a loot spot.

Personally, I'd like to see NVG's spawn in residential loot. Or at least in low-tier military loot. It's not fair that 98% of players be alienated from night servers because 2% can kill them with no competition.

I think they're unfair because when you spawn in and find your local server has decided it's going to run nightime during the only time you can play - you better have NVGs or you are stuck in pitch black and unable to day anything except die. It puts of thousands of players and the evidence of that is how many play on the day servers - there are 24 hour daylight servers because of the night not being hard but stupid and pointless.

If you're going to start throwing road flares you may as well run through the middle of Cherno firing your AK into the air while playing Gangnam style through direct coms.

NVGs giving a huge advantage would be acceptable if they actually took some kind of skill to find or use but up until now the only "skill" they required was hopping to an empty server and recycling barracks loot until you got them. Now that they're on crash sites only it's simply a case of getting lucky, I've been playing DayZ on and off for about 6 months and I've only ever found ONE pair of NVGs that I can confirm were 100% legit because I didn't want to meta-game and recycle loot spawns.

Basically something needs to change with the night cycle and/or NVGs and/or alternative light sources because right now NVGs make you essentially unstoppable against people without them. Realistic? Yes. Fun? Not for the guy without NVGs. There's a reason that night time servers are always less populated, most people who stay on them either have NVGs or they're ramping their gamma up.

They won't be happy till were all running around with makarovs and nothing else. The whining gets worse every day on these forums.
