How dangerous are the zombies REALLY

Recommended Posts

So I have yet to play the game, because I am waiting on my desktop computer to be fixed and given back to me by my friend. And I was wondering how dangerous the zombies in the game are. I have watched so many videos where the player would just move around a bit and the zombies couldn't hit him because of their crappy lock on capabilities. It seems that they will stop, assess the situation, calculate the trajectory of their arm, consider the moral implications AND THEN swing at the player. Do they become more aggressive in packs? Can they just be avoided like they are just an annoyance, or can they actually kill you? Please respond as I want to know if they are a threat that will force players to work together; especially with this new patch making zombies more powerful.

They arent really a threat they stop running if you are in a building, they cant attack you if you are in a pinetree, they stop following you if you zig zag around trees and they need way to many hits to kill you .

The zombies in the dayz mod are just annoying when you try to loot or to fight another player.

Most of the time you only get killed by them if you are unucky or stupid.

The only gamemode/mod where zombies are dangerous is dayz 2017 but there arent many decent 2017 servers and after you find a enfield ,food and drinks it becomes really boring.

Walk, NOT RUN, through a major city in the game and if you make it out of it alive I'll send you 50 internet DayZ dollars.

The zombies in DayZ are similar to zombie movies - except for the outdoor running - after the characters in the movie have overcome the shock of seeing zombies and have each grabbed a weapon of their choice/availability:

A single zombie means the camera will zoom in for a gore-kill now.

A horde of zombies means the director is either making a change of scenery by forcing an escape scene or he's killing off a character - in this case you.

A character going crazy, e.g. walking down the middle of a street taking out zombies with his (in movies infinite ammo until his death scene comes) shotgun, is getting a heroic but inevitable death scene.

I have disagree somewhat. The zombies are much more difficult to deal with. They seem to enter buildings now if you linger in them to long, and if you fire an unsilenced weapon in a building in town, you are very likely going to die. Also, zombies aggro in a large area now when you repair a vehicle. I would say that the only way zombies are not a problem, is either if you are cheating, or have a partner holding aggro with rifleshots while you loot.

Don't worry the zombies will be much more difficult in the standalone. They will be able to run in buildings and they are fine tuning the pathing.

I can't understand the complaints about zombies..

It's either "lol zombies are a joke, make them harder plzkthxbai" or "Waaaah zombies are too hard, nerf them or ill stop playing and cry in a corner"

I rarely see people say they are perfect (they aren't) and when I do it's usually a fully geared player, in a helicopter who is running with a full squad.

I admit they are challenging before you find a weapon, but it's as simple as finding a hatchet and some stairs as it stands right now.

I'm just hoping the standalone does a better job on them, but I'm sure it'll be the same story even then.

A zombie is easily overcome - a group of zombies are a different proposition.

I find the main danger is you get hit and cut. DayZ has a bleed out system, so you're going to have to apply a bandage - something not easily done when you're sprinitng from a horde.

Zombies are super easy to deal with...until they kill you...

That is when you realize how many stupid mistakes you made and the rage bubbles over. >:(

i think currently the zombies are just an inherent risk because as most ppl know, where there are zombies there are players, tbh the pathfinding makes them laughable, for the most part you can just kite them around all over the place, so i would say their actual danger level is negligible compared to even the most useless player. although there are them times when you underestimate them, in swarms, with little ammo, they can box you in quite well.

They become more of a nuisance than an actual threat. Middle of a gun fight and a zombie is wacking me over the back of the head.

I love the zombies they are easy to deal with if you avoid apartment buildings etc and they are glitchy as fuck.

If I don't want the zombie experience and just fancy some pvp I just hop onto wasteland.

That makes them a threat... A nuisance is when you run away from them and hide in bushes, not getting hit by them. If you start bleeding and reach 8000, one zombie hit might kill you. (Knocked out + eaten)

And if you don't like zombies, you should really consider leaving DayZ and swapping to wasteland. The zombies will be more difficult in the Standalone for sure.

Read the entire post you moron, I said I enjoy the aspect of zombies... I also said it is a nuisance at times, there is certain situations where you think 'fucking zombies', but that is the game its DayZ not wasteland. At the start when I was unaware on how to deal with them months ago they were fantastic, now its a case of jumping in the nearest pine tree, running through a building or take them out with a silenced weapon. I cant wait for the more advanced zombies on the SA.

But again read my entire post before you comment. KTHXBAI

People are finding it odd that they can't walk or "stealth" their way around the cities... Have you forgotten it's infested with zombies? Pulling off something like that is going to require patience, skill and a shitload of luck!

I think the zombie AI and threat level is strangely inconsistant. I'm not sure I've figured it out 100% yet. I find that I can still run around looting Cherno and Electro with relative impunity. Zombie's aggro from further away, but they still lose line of sight quickly and I find my tactics change little.

But yesterday, I tried looting the military tents in Berezino. On foot, playing solo, I found it impossible. All the tents spawn 1-2 zombies now. If you try and shoot your way in, the entire zombie population in Berezino will decend on you in seconds. Stealth approaches also failed. Crouching or even going prone, I invariably aggro'd some zombie from 300 yds away and shortly, I had them all stirred up. Strangely, I found I could drive a truck right up to the tents and with little or no aggro (though actually getting in was another story). But this makes no sense. A zombie will spot me prone from 300 yds and come running, but in a truck, they largely ignore me.

I hope SA makes us all rethink the way we loot towns. Right now it's just a sprint in, grab stuff, sprint out with a zombie train and lose them in the woods. With the new looting mechanics this should become impossible, as you will have to look for items when you loot, and the zombies running in buildings (and hopefully being A LOT stronger) will turn any stupid player into dead meat relatively quickly. I'm looking forward to learning how to play all over again.

Although zombie behaviour should be improved im pretty satisfied with what we got now...if I fire a gun inside a building, zombies will swarm the building..as they should, but if I have the skill and keep it cool I can headshoot my way out of the zombie crowd with a puny makarov.

Also sneaking through a town, crossing the steet when its clear, rubbing against house walls, works as a gamemechanic...but could use some improvements, but its still fun gameplay as it is now.

I also have no problem with that fact that u can just run by the zombies in town and pick up loot fast and easy...u only risk being noticed by other players/snipers by doing it that way. Hearing zombies getting aggroed when u know its not from u is sure sign of other players in the vicinity. So its a calculated risk the player can choose to do or not.

My personal opinion is the zeds are more difficult after the newest patch but still not that bad. I have played almost every day since the patch and I have yet to be killed by the zeds yet. Sure I have had a whole horde swarming in the supermarket and of course a z train chasing me back out of town at times but you just need to keep moving.

I believe one underlying issue between players at the moment is total time played in dayZ. The players that have only been playing for a couple months have only dealt with the type of zeds who were as dumb as it gets. Veteran players can remember when zeds were tougher in the past. Remember the dinner bell...shit got real when you fired that. Just a patch ago I could go into Zeleno I shoot a zombie with SAW and 15 feet away 2 zeds would continue merrily hopping along the road as I am unloading lead into their infected buddies. Now when I shoot I know its time to move, reevaluate, replan, then continue on. Just play smarter and if you really have trouble go with the most op zed weapon...the hatchet.

They're more dangerous now than before, for sure. Aggro a lot more and appear to hit a LOT harder.

The intermittent and seemingly random knockout system is what generally causes any rage that I acquire. There's nothing quite like having a zombie warp speed teleport sprint to your location, knock you out from full health, have it be one of the LONG knockouts where you can do nothing but stare at the hourglass slowly vanishing one line of pixels at a time, knowing full well you won't be waking up. Especially now that they hit so much harder.

At first the zombies will seem to be an omnipresent threat as they have will smell your farts from 80m's away and will gladly follow you from Cherno to Nw if you give them the chance. But once you'v been playing awhile and you realize the quirks of those omnipresent-physics-defying-bastards they stop becoming any more than an obstacle I realized this when I went to shoot a player in the head, and a zombie walked in ass in front of my sights; taking the bullet for him. Once I calmed down from the nerd-rage I remembered I was playing a zombie game.
