How do I retrieve bolts from crossbow?

Recommended Posts

Every time it seems as though a zombie falls on the bolt and it is not retrievable. Am I missing something here? Discuss!

I can retrieve most of my bolts. You just have to look carefully, try aiming at the bolt when you see it. Sometimes bolt is on the bottom side of the zombie and you can't retreive it as you can't see it. Unfortunately there is no way to turn bodies around.

Sometimes the bolt stays hovering in the air at the exact position where you hit the target.

also, be very very careful how you're reloading the crossbow. As of now, there's a bug that causes you to get an extended visibility to zeds when you reload it in a prone position. I still need to test 1.7.1.1, but in 1.7.1 it even got to maximum visibility when you reload it while prone.

If you can't see the bolt, then you can't pick it up..

However, if you have another player with you, they may be able to see it, as it, or the body, may be rendering in a slightly different place.

If you go prone, and place you head insde the model, you can usually see the bolt, but you might not get an option to pick it up..

Best thing to do, would be to place the bolts onto the gear inventory of the corpse... it's easy enough to loose bolts anyway, since the thing doesn't shoot straight to start with :)

Oh, and make the fins blue.. yellow fins in grass can be near impossible to spot....

I just tested this.. kneeling, did not increase visibility (2 bars), but when I went prone and reloaded, the visibilty went stright to 5 bars.

So I moved off and tried it again.. from kneeling (2 bars), a reload made no difference.

Then I went prone (0 Bars), and reloaded, and it just went to 2 bars..

So I'm thinking that it is the first reload while prone that spikes the visibility.. once you reload once, it seems to only add 2 to prone or none to kneeling.

I'll keep checking this..

Also, it does indeed appear to now be 1 shot kill on Zeds on torso hits (even arms, didn't try legs yet).. and the reload time has been halfed (weapon is ready to fire at end of the reload animation, not 3 seconds after).

This, might, at least allow us x-bow users to leave some bolts at home when out raiding.. no point looting if you have nowhere to put the loot...

I actually found a bolt I shot at a zombie and missed, went right past him and hit a tree in the background. I seen the dust pick up and crawled past it picked it off the tree.

Only wish there was a easier way of carrying bolts, then I'd definitely make the Crossbow my main its so fun to use. Got a bandit kill with one too (Pre 1.6.)

What about shooting a bolt into the wall? I picked one up earlier, and tried shooting a bolt into a wall, just to test the sight. I used two bolts, and couldn't retrieve any of them? They just dissappeared.
