NO MORE BAMBIs!

Recommended Posts

Really disappointed at the number of people getting uppity about the use of the word "Bambi". He's simply adopted a term someone else has used. Whether you like it/the person who coined it is irrelevant, especially in a thread that's about something else entirely.

Back on topic, I'd think that it'd be pretty useless/impractical (Considering it takes you years to kill anything with a crowbar, how long would it take you to take something down with your fists?) whilst still really neat/hilarious at the same time.

That's pretty gay, dude. You just destroyed my swagger. Send me a link about this 'slang' and maybe I'll google it. Sweet, my cat.

Too much?

Even though it was a joke, I had no problems reading that. It did make you look kinda silly, putting "random" words in italics, though. :L

Because a bambi is a player that spawns without a weapon. The player is now the weapon

A bambi is a FRANKIEonPC channel meme referring to "new players" in games, who don't have a clue what's going on! Their name comes from Disney's Bambi, as they look like Bambi deer when he first stepped on ice! Bambies are NOT "noobs" - noobs are good players who abuse broken / overpowered game mechanics

A meme is an internet joke. It's just a term.

Also, a noob is just a derogatory form of "newb", which is short for "Newbie", which of course means "new player". A new player doesn't spawn with weapons. That's what he's trying to say.

I'm all for melee attacks... as long as they are bloody useless:

-Start punching a zombie, he grab a hold of your arm and tear the flesh off your arm/bite a few of your fingers off.

-Try to strangle an armed player, he turns around and bash your skull with his gun until you stop moving.

Back on topic, I'd think that it'd be pretty useless/impractical (Considering it takes you years to kill anything with a crowbar, how long would it take you to take something down with your fists?) whilst still really neat/hilarious at the same time.

Punching a zombie would be stupid, but if you notice, they seem to only want to eat you if they knock you unconscious, otherwise they just slap you, so it'd be more like a catfight you'd be getting into.

Seriously, though, I'd leave punching for players and pushing/kicking zombies in the face for... well.. zombies. The main character of AMC's The Walking Dead exhibits how, even though immensely outnumbered and freshly thrown off a horse, you can still get away from zombies using the heel of your boot, and climb into a tank- and this was in episode 1- not to even mention how those zombies are 18x or more deadly than DayZ zombies as (though they can't really run) one measly scratch will kill you in the long run.

And, no, players would not turn around and bash you with their gun till dead, because here's how I imagine the mechanic would have to work:

The one who is being strangled would have to be still, and the other would sneak up. Then, you do a Solid Snake-like CQC move in which they cannot use their weapon, or, being more realistic, it'd even be possible in real life to tackle them, sit on their back, use the inside of your elbow to choke them and the parts of your legs to hold their arms down. And trust me, unexpecting, that move would be easy enough to pull off.

As for punching players, you're right, it takes tons of time to KILL players with a crowbar. Number 1, that's why you break their legs, run, and have them bleed out, and 2, that's why punching should KO them. It doesn't take much to KO someone with blunt trauma from your fist, provided it's in the right place, and anyway, these men/women are strong people. Hell, maybe when you sneak up on someone you should just be able to whack them in da back o da head and give them a concussion. Either would be plausible for me.

Better?

I suppose but aren't dayZ characters average guys? aka, NOT veteran navy seal able to perfectly execute a choke hold?

They understand how to use every military-grade weapon, survival technique, and are geared like them, so I don't know.

Trust me, it's not that hard, and it wouldn't take a fracking Navy SEAL choke hold.... Even so, the zombie infection has gone on for 5 YEARS. You learn a lot in that time.

I think that is one of the cons of DayZ -- everyone who is a survivor shouldn't have the body, or use firearms like some SEAL, however I think that is restricting the player a bit if we ever remove the ability to 'play' like a SEAL. I personally try to follow some guidelines I've read in Marine manuals while playing DayZ (you can call me Commander Sergeant Gesundheit!).

Don't forget they can hop in a chopper, execute a perfect take off, fly around, execute a perfect landing, (assuming the player knows how, but the char is that smart), jump out, get in a .50 cal mounted machine gun, shoot some stuff and get out without being shaken up or getting a headache, run for hours and hours like an olympic runner, all while being a badass.

And you can do it all without pants on.

Do you mean I could have worn pants all this time?

D'oh!

I've noticed something with DayZ. You find a lot of player bodies lacking something: weapons.

So what do we do?

Spawn a player with guns?

No.

Why not have our hands as a weapon? I'm not talking about anything drastic, just the ability to (if you sneak up on someone) start to strangle them, in which they can attempt to fight back, or you can punch them, in which after quite a few head blows they go unconscious.

Why not just be able to push zombies away from you (even when you have a weapon)?

This is not much. It just gives the player the opportunity to be able to slightly defend themselves if used correctly. Because there are those times you see a guy and you just can't find a weapon. Being able to tactically sneak up on him and take him down only seems fair at that point. Now when zombies corner you and you can't kill them, you can push them away. You can fight back, even if it isn't that much of a fight.

Now there's even a way to support players who want to play unarmed!

Give the player the opportunity, atleast!

What does the community think?

This thread is for you.

if people are able to perform agressive actions without a gun, you'd need to be able to knock peole out and give them handcuffs, or else it would be shoot on sight only, unless it's within your TS channel

i honestly don't think melee without any weapon should suffice against zombies though, they are stronger, faster, and bite

Can you kick Husain Bolt as he's running toward you? You bet you can. Can you push him to the ground and run away? Sure.

What's the problem?

If this got implemented, no-one would let you get close enough before you attack them; making it null and void.

I mean, no-one walks up to you to kill you point blank do they!

It'd make CQC indoors a lot more interesting.

I'm still not keen on QTEs for retaliation, but I suppose that's unavoidable. (unless Q/E wiggle was enough to stop some n00b from taking your gun)

Knockdown/tackle should definitely have a cooldown to it,

Players turning juggernaut and just throwing zeds/players on their asses or off ledges all day would be a very important ability to balance.

I did that on a lot of pvp occasions in the whole OFP/ArmA history if the situation permitted it...mostly on wannabe snipers who forgot the most important rule when sniping.

All fairly good ideas, they will add to the other hundred or so melee based ideas, but still good.

i still would like to have a new item like a rope or handcuffs found in military bases to disarm a player entirely

if you can strangle a person and he is knocked out, what would stop you from using something to tie his hands and feet and shove him into your car?

you can allready do this, you just have to hit someone with a 7.62 gun from close range and can carry them aound and do pretty much everything with them, just that if you stop your car while they get concious again they can just hop out like nothing ever happened

with some way to restrain someone this would be a great idea, but without it becomes "just shoot everyone on sight who is closer than 20 meters"
