sp86 508 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) This is a simple suggestion, I don't know how easy it would be to implement, but I recommend given the changes in 1.7.5.1 a small change be made to the inventory management system so that the hatchet, when on a player's toolbelt, would be selectable through either the scroll wheel or the F Key, this would allow a player a "melee" option without dropping their weapon or placing it in their backpack, and would drastically increase a lone players ability to fight zombies or other players silently. Kyzahh 127 Posted February 7, 2013 While I'd love that I feel like it would probably hurt balance. Why waste bullets when you can switch to your hatchet nearly instantaneously to silently kill a couple zombies.

mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted February 7, 2013 I'd like to see that implemented, but with the inclusion of a semi-rare item, a 3-point tactical sling. If you equip the sling on your primary weapon, you should be able to shoulder it and draw another two handed weapon. With the way the game works now it would only be useful for hatchets, because they stay in your tool belt. But ideally it would give "quickdraw" function to your main gun.
Droidlife 11 Posted February 7, 2013 I agree fully! You shouldn't have to go through that laborious operation of opening your inventory, dropping your rifle and fiddling with the "remove from toolbelt" menue.

Positronica 30 Posted February 7, 2013 Yeah, a more usable melee option is definitely needed. My character can already draw his side arm and sling his long gun over his shoulder, and he can also holster his side arm. It's immersion breaking that I can't somehow do both of those at the same time and then take out my hatchet. It's most likely that it's a limitation of the Arma 2 engine, though. One alternative would be to give the hunting knife the same "remove from toolbelt" option that the hatchet has, only the hunting knife would go into the side arm slot instead of your primary weapon slot. It would mean still having to shuffle a weapon around, but I think a lot of players would be a little bit happier having to drop or backpack their sidearm as opposed to their primary weapon in order to enter melee.
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted February 7, 2013 Pretty sure the engine doesn't support something like that. If you selected your axe with your F key, and tried to melee, you would do like you do while throwing items, which is, holster your weapon, take out the item, use it, and unholster your weapon again.Since you can't move during this sequence, you'd probably get knocked unconscious and/or bleed heavily because of the zombies. B00tsy (DayZ) 19 Posted February 7, 2013 Good idea, cos I hate wasting ammo on zombies. Once you have pistol you can't use the hatchet anymore, not on the go anyway.
