ArmA II: OA key was stolen and I'm now unable to change it.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I recently found that my ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead key was stolen! I was quite dissapointed, but decided to just buy another key off a legit key website. The key is valid as my friend can use it, but I'm unable to change it because it says I can't access my registry. I go to the registry and notice that rather than the key being a blue file it's red and it's value is set to 0's. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how'd you fix it? Thanks for any help you can provide!

"Because my friend can use it"

This. No.

Sorry, let me clear that up. I meant that my very trusted friend brought his laptop over and I typed it in for him because I wanted to check it. It worked fine and that's how I know that it is valid.

Uninstall OA and reinstall it with your new key? After doing scans with all your virus / malware / spyware scanners to delete the thing that stole your key in the first place of course.

Sounds like the malware you downloaded that resulted in your CD Key being stolen also messed your registry up (permissions). No idea how to fix it though.

I'd reinstall your OS before doing anything or your key's just gonna get stolen again TBH.

Also, if you did not buy your key from a recognised source it most likely will be banned too soon. Never trust thieves.

The key site I used was amazon actually, it wasn't really a key website I guess but it provided me with a new valid key.

1. Go to start

2. Type regedit in search bar

3. Hit enter

4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

5. SOFTWARE

6. Wow6432Node

7. Bohemia Interactive Studio

8. ArmA 2 OA

9. Right click the ArmA 2 OA folder

10. Go to permissions

11. Go to advanced

12. You should be in the permissions tab

13. Under type you should see 5 or 4 allows and 1 deny

14. Highlight the one that says deny and click remove

14. Hit apply ok then ok again

15. On the right double click the name KEY

16. Delete all the 00000000000 hit ok

17. Change your key, and enjoy!

NOTE: If they keystealer is a run on startup keystealer, changing your key will only get that key stolen as well. Either wiping the hard drive or googling how to remove this SHOULD be done first.
