Josh225 129 Posted February 3, 2013 So I was wondering if out of the people on the forums who still do not kill on sight have cool stories of times they've done something awesome for a 1st time player. Here's mine - I was playing with a squad of old buddies I don't play with anymore and our idea for the night was fly up and down the coast in our heli and collect fresh spawn's flashlights (it was nighttime and the rule was you couldn't kill them for it). We flew around yelling at fresh spawns to drop the banana (flashlight) and in exchange we gave them a ride to wherever they wanted. We flew a few to the NWAF and some just wanted Cherno. After a while we spotted one unarmed player running in the field north of elektro, so we landed near him and proceeded with the usual of drop the banana, the reply that came back had me in tears. A confused voice comes back "But I don't think I have a banana..." He goes on to explain that he had never played before and didn't know how to work the inventory and after we finally got the flashlight we decided it was a really awesome idea to give him NV goggles. So basically we gave a completely new player one of the most valuable items in the game which he most likely went on to die to zombies with, but it made me feel good.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted February 3, 2013 (edited) Not sure if it was the first time I ever helped someone, but here's a memorable one.I had acquired a Military Offroad and had ventured into Cherno to get parts for it to fix it up better, and grab some med supplies for myself. Was wearing a ghillie suit and had an AK Kobra, was halfway to the northern industrial sector. Real life (breakfast) called, and not wanting to just log out and leave my brand new Range Rover in the middle of Cherno right behind the fire station I made a beeline for my car to go hide in the woods for a bit. I get past the wall and see someone (didn't notice at the time but he was unarmed) standing in front of and then got into the passenger seat. I fire a few rounds at him and in direct mic'ed "Get out of the Vehicle, Now!" he gets out and lays down and craws away from the car, facing away from me and stops, I'm a little shocked at this point, was expecting him to try and drive off or to try and shoot me. After the shock wore off I got into my Range, "Well then...Carry on." and peeled out before he could get a gun. Next day same guy was asking for a ride so I picked him up and took him to a Pickup I found earlier that was fully repaired and gave him a jerry can.EDITInfact, he didn't even know it was me from the other day till I brought it up, "Hey uhh...sorry for shooting at you the other day..." Devon206 (DayZ) 77 Posted February 3, 2013 I never really got to help anyone because all that happens is... I get shot.
plrsniper 87 Posted February 3, 2013 (edited) I don't always KOS even though that is my most common action. This one time a guy was running around Zelenogorsk in the middle of the night and i asked him what he was up to.He said he was looking for car wheels and i informed him where he could find some.We ended up going together looking for wheels and we found the two he needed, fixed his car.I rode with him up north and told him where to stop, i hopped out and said "Peace out", took my own car that i had stashed there and drove off. Leaving him to carry on with his business. Not very spectacular but even though i am a cold blooded murderer most of the time i do in fact still enjoy helping people from time to time.I just wish more people would INTERACT in DayZ.Most of the time they are lonewolfing it, running at the slightest hint of other players or walking around in large groups inlands and doing nothing but farming gear and hunting smaller packs than themselves and have the tenacity to call themselves professionals.Me and my friends proudly proclaim such things as "Elektro is now ours, stay away or be killed" in hopes someone will actually make it their task to take it from us.We don't carry full gear... Yet, 2-3 of us will hold Elektro without problem because all the diehard professionals are too damn cowardly to come and take us on.If players would actually start to interact in certain ways we would see more cooperation and actual meaningful PvP than we do now.For instance, i remember this time i was slaughtering everyone in Elektro regardless of their current status and a band of seemingly random players all made it their goal to kill me.I shed a tear of joy as they didn't randomly deathmatch each other and instead all went around hunting for me. Of course i gave them a fair fight and didn't just flee with my tail between my legs, even though i had really good gear and was alone against 4-6 angry guys with all kinds of weaponry. Shoot bandits on sight but try to help survivors (have never ever seen another hero). Player interaction is much more fun than just shooting to save yourself the intense moment of contact. DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 4, 2013 If i ever have a vehicle when i am finished for the night i always try and drive down to the coast and just hand it over to any respawn i see running along the road.I can't be bothered hiding and saving it so i'd just rather give it away.
