In need of help.

Recommended Posts

I saw a video of Dayz on youtube and thought.. why do I not have that game??

Like any noob I bought Arma2: Combined Ops using a GameStop App on my laptop. I'm still trying to figure out.. what to do with the files, how to fix my running speed.. Why is the game lagging so much??

So, I recently got the Acer Aspire v.5 Touch laptop, (From BestBuy) it's good for what I need to do and I can fit most of my games on it. Dayz and Arma are probably the largest files on here so I'm pretty sure that it's not a "Filled" memory problem. I've got a NetGear dual band router and Comcast High Speed internet. I've tried playing on servers and I can barely move.. the lag is terrible. I also don't know how to go straight to DayZ without using the Play withSix launcher. Do I need more Arma versions such as PMC or something?

I just need to know,

How do I set everything up, and how do I get most of the lag removed, and what do I do to accomplish these tasks.

Thanks,

-Miles

and the lag is probably graphical lag, turn settings down, especially on a laptop, Arma II is quite an old game but it is still demanding

PMC and BAF dlcs I think improve the texture rez on some things in Dayz, optional things to buy but unless you love ARMA and are gonna play more than dayz Id say skip them.

Welcome to the forums mate. Try getting DayZ commander to do the updates and server browsing for you.

For the lag the only things you can do is play with the settings. As you explained (I can barely move) I can suggest you some graphics settings that might suit you although i don't know your hardware specs.

When you go into the game, on the main menu screen navigate to Options, Video Options and set your Visibility to 1300, Interface Resolution matching your Screen resolution and 3D resolution on 50% (Half of your Screen Resolution).

When you have these done click on Advanced Button, Set everything to Low/Normal except Antialiasing,Atoc,Shadows,Post Process and V sync which i suggest you to have them disabled.

With these done you can go ingame and see if it's playable. If you have a decent framerate ( Monitor it using a 3rd party program like FRAPS. A decent framerate for me is 30fps plus) you can set your 3D resolution to 100%( The same with your monitor resolution) so you can get rid of the blurriness that Half 3D resolutions causes.

One thing you might want to know, if you set anything to normal and below you force your CPU to process it. If it's High and above you force the GPU to process it. So play around with your settings so you can find a balance point. But as i mentioned before Keep Antialiasing, Atoc, Post Process and V sync disabled.
