Numbers to the left of Side Chat

Recommended Posts

I was playing earlier today and I was way in the North West with a little bird that I had for about 2 days. I was low and gas and asked a regular on the server if he could spare some gas. He said no problem and he said it would take him about 5 minutes. We used side chat to communicate and made no indication to where the location was. He shows up and he starts refueling when all of a sudden I hear a bullet hit me and I die. Few seconds later he dies as well. Needless to say we were both pissed. I asked our killer how he knew our position because we did not use coordinates to my location. The killer responds saying he used the numbers to the left of our side chat to find us. I searched all over the DayZ wiki looking for such a way to find people using this method and yielded no results.

Is this actually possible or was this a case of wrong place wrong time?

Those side chat numbers like 1-1-A 1, 1-2-G 1 don't have anything to do with your coordinates. Those means which unit you are in the game in which company etc. He could track you down only with hack that shows icons with those numbers on the map or the killer was the admin of the server.

He is not an admin on the server. My only conclusion to him showing up in the middle of nowhere is either A. Hack B. He was in the right place at the right time

The numbers to the left have nothing to do with your location, they are merely used to show what section, squad or company you are in. Picking a different slot when in the lobby will yield a different number to the left of what you type.

This guy is either a hacker, someone who saw you land (most likely), or an admin using his admin tools as an advantage, and he's covering it up.

Can I ask where you landed? It might reveal whether he was hacking, or just came across you.

The most annoying thing about hackers, is the people who whine about them when ever they get killed.

There is a mulititude of ways he could of found you.

Welcome to online gaming! This is the case for every game really. There will always be someone who will whine about being killed when someone used skill to kill them.

Hello there

Rather than accuse of "whining" remember that the OP's Q. was on the prefix of the chat and it's meaning.

Let's not debase threads down to the level of "l2p" etc.
