Kyrios (DayZ) 0 Posted January 23, 2013 I apologize if there is already a thread on this, but I simply must ask. Will we be able to switch guns while running??It really kills the moment when I run out of ammo while slaughtering zombies with my pistol and I run out of ammo and I have to completely stop just to switch to my main weapon. :emptycan:I shouldn't have to "just run in a building" to switch my weapon, nor should I have to stop and let the zeds slap me to death. I fail to understand why Arma would limit you like that in the first place, but we have a chance to change it with standalone. (Anyone know if Arma 3 lets you do this?)Thanks, looking forward to standalone!
Testwd3r235 2810 Posted January 23, 2013 It's a realism kinda system for weapons. Out of game you can't just teleport a gun from your bag to your hands and unlike most FPS, pull one out of your anus.
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted January 23, 2013 We most likely will be able to.In the mod we can't because the ARMA 2 engine doesn't support doing such actions while moving. It's a realism kinda system for weapons. Out of game you can't just teleport a gun from your bag to your hands and unlike most FPS, pull one out of your anus.Well, assuming you're holding a rifle or a pistol, what's stopping you from running and grabbing the gun on your side and use that? And it's not impossible to take a weapon off your back while running. I've done so on multiple occasions while doing Airsoft.

terminal_boy 860 Posted January 23, 2013 Can you remove one rifle from a rucksack and swap it with the one you're holding at a dead run?
PhillyTC 3 Posted January 23, 2013 Can you remove one rifle from a rucksack and swap it with the one you're holding at a dead run?No, but I can ready up an AR that is slung over my shoulder after holstering my pistol at a dead run. I can also sling said AR onto my shoulder while drawing a pistol from it's holster at a dead run.Not being able to switch to a weapon in your bag is understandable. A holster and a sling are designed for this very purpose, to keep either weapon readily available when needed, and out of the way when not. Switching between the 2 should not make you stop completely.
maxnmike 134 Posted January 23, 2013 I was wondering what in the OP made people think he wanted to take a weapon out of his pack? He said switch from his pistol to his main weapon, nothing was said about taking it out of his pack.

Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted January 23, 2013 What if you had to acquire a rifle sling in able to change weapon while running, attaching it to your primary would then allow you to sling the rifle over your shoulder and take out your pistol.

Its realistic for sure.
terminal_boy 860 Posted January 23, 2013 My question was for MacarbreLlama99.On the subject of transistions, any sort of makeshift sling would allow you to simply let go of your primary and draw your secondary.Drawing from a thigh holster while moving isn't easy though. Possibly why experienced gunfighters mount their secondaries on battle belts or on the front of their plate carriers now that modern holsters allow it.
Dom257 4 Posted January 24, 2013 Yea good idea, slung SA80 style across frontLove the SA80 sling. Wrap it tight to your chest or back for hands free. Undo buckle, free weapon movement. Also it's so much easier on the run to switch out a weapon in than to reload in real life
taco241 393 Posted January 25, 2013 I'm actually writing a magazine article about slings (types and how they should be appropriately used in the field by hunters)You can't easily swap a gun while sprinting, at least not unless you've got a decent amount of military experience.Your rifle will need a sling, and your sidearm a holster or other easy-to-reach pocket.I hope they add slings in SA...don't think a holster is neccessary for sidearms in game. Most hunters do not use slings (maybe 30% or less might...doing a poll on this)In real life, most people would drop a main gun to draw a sidearm if you needed immediate access to it. In game, you'de have to go back and find the gun. As others havepointed out, I think a happy compromise would be to allow a very quick swapping of rifle/shotty to a sidearm and back, while standing, or while at a slow jog, and if you have a sling on the long gun.
