Decision Making

Recommended Posts

So I have been trying to decide for about a week now if I should purchase DayZ. The game looks interesting and I really like team based games like this. Helping other people get things accomplished is my thing. So after several hours of heavy research, Frankie videos, and wikis I was ready to buy.....until I came to the forums. It seems that a lot if people die to other players, with no questions asked. That is a real turn off. It seems like this game my be counter productive to my own intentions. I'm not saying I didn't expect some players to be like this, but it seems that many players say close to 90% of the players do this!!! So now I'm really on the fence about this game, after the stories I have heard. Please can anyone shed some light on this subject? I would hate to waste $30.00 on CoD, which I already own lol.

-Not sure if this is the right section.

-Sorry for grammars error if found.

My advise: buy Arma 2 CO when on a Steam sale for 50% off or more or wait for Standalone (round about 18 euros probs for Starting Release). :)

About the PvP: if you played say on a friendly server you would have fun for a month tops. After that you get bored with no hostile player interactions. Also without the PvP it would be like a L4D or a Dead Island but with bad zombie animations.

When you have played a while you know exactly how zeds behave and they are no longer a threat whatsoever (more of a nusance) and can get pretty well geared up without killing a single zombie :/

Without the adrenaline of PvP in DayZ this game would not have thrived.

Of course I should think there are a few private Hives that do not allow PvP.

Regards :)

Edit: Maybe this goes in New Player Discussion?

I see your point, but like I said I would like a good mixture off both, not simply the 90% bandit rate i heard about. By your statement I'm going to assume the type of player you are....still leaving me with some questions.

I pretty much agree with everything Zarniwoop said.

Once you learn the game, figure out that its pretty easy to avoid zombies, and if you do get them chasing you its easy to lose them around buildings and in bushes, you wont feel any kind of threat or excitement and get bored. I don't even waste bullets on zombies any more unless I absolutely have to. I save all mine for players.

Its the bandits that make this game fun. Like the paranoia you get when running through an open field or when climbing up a ladder, always watching behind you thinking someone is following you. And on the other hand its a great rush when you are hunting someone down...

My advice to you is if you do start playing, trust absolutely no one. If someone says they are friendly and unarmed, sneakily check their pack to see if they are stashing a gun. When with someone else, always let them go up front and don't hesitate to kill them if need be. I only team up with RL mates, never strangers.

Most private hives have custom skins for bandits so you can tell from a distance if a player is going to be hostile, so you can hide / avoid them.

the problem is: Resoruces to bountiful, people to scared to loose easily obtained high end gear, i suggest playing 2017, a mod for Dayz which makes loot so much rare most people trade

My advice? You need to play as if you are playing against real people because you are. It's not Fallout 3 where you automatically initiate contact with computer controlled characters following a script. These are real players and every person you meet is different. Some are jerks just looking to PvP. Some are friendly. Some are scared or clueless. Some are fuck-ups. I've met plenty of other players who didn't immediately KOS. I've even teamed up with bandits and hackers. But you really need a mike so you can communicate quickly. That's what makes it different from COD or Battlefield.

Plus you don't need to interact with other players if you don't want to. Avoid the major cities and airstrips and scavange in the deep woods avoiding human contact if you like.
