ARMA 2 OA not running

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, I keep getting the error "error compiling pixel shader PSSPectacularAlpha:0" when I launch AO.

I tried Googling the problem but the responses all related to Arma 2 AO on steam (I have the disk version). I also tried going to BI's support forum but it needs me to have more than 3 posts before I can make a technical post(?!). Anyway, I know this isnt really the best place to ask but at present it's my only hope.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

My only suggestion is to run Steam as administrator.

if running arma 2 as admin (Right click on the .exe in oa folder) doesn't work it may be best to do a clean install of arma and arma 2

tp do a clean install you have to follow the steps here

ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR USER PROFILE

Step One: Run Arma 2 Uninstaller or use Window Add/Remove Programs to Remove Arma 2

Step Two: Restart if required; Open Programs Folder and delete any remaining Bohemia Interacitve folders

Step Three: Open My Documents and Delete any/all Arma 2 or Arma 2 OA folders

Step Four:At the top of the My Documents Explorer window, in the address bar, type %appdata% and press enter.

---Under AppData, there are 3 folders Local, LocalLow, and Roaming. Ensure no Arma Folders exist in any, delete any Arma folders found. TO BE CLEAR: Do not delete the Folders: Local, LocalLow, or Roaming.

step Five: Delete Registry Keys left over

--Open Start Menu, type: regedit and press enter

You will be dealing with 2 folders:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

(If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, some of the Bohemia Interactive Studio folders will be found under the Wow6432Node, otherwise the folder is called Software)

Delete the Bohemia Interactive Studio folder

and then restart your computer

Install Arma 2 OA

step 1. Install Arma 2

step 2. Install Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead

step 3. Run Arma 2 at least once; exit back to desktop.

step 4. Run Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead at least once; exit back to desktop.

step 5. If you have BAF DLC Addon Pack, install it.

step 6. Run BAF at least once; exit to desktop.

step 7. If you have PMC DLC Addon Pack, install it.

step 8. Run PMC at least once; exit to desktop.

step 9 Install patches Arma 2 to version 1.11 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead to version 1.62

links to patches

Arma 2 Patch 1.00 to 1.09

Arma 2 from 1.05 version to 1.11

Arma 2 OA 1.50 to 1.60

Arma 2 OA 1.60 to 1.62

step 10 Run Arma 2/OA/CO at least once exit to desktop. when in CO click expansions and make sure the following is enabled

Arma2

Arma2 oa

Yeah try to launch Arma 2 only. If it launches then it might be the same registry problem that Steam users have.

Thanks if that's the only option I'll have to give it a try.

ARMA 2 on it's own launches fine for sure.

the one in your documents mate the back up of that folder is for your save games and config etc you dont really need to do it if you dont play oa or arma just dayz (or unless you modified any of these files to get better fps or fov)
