Sourcarrot 27 Posted January 16, 2013 So at the moment pain is largely unrealistic e.g you can be shot and the only thing that changes is some shaky vision that can be fixed very easily by inhaling a entire box of painkillers with no real consequences afterwards. So the first thing I would like to see in the standalone is your character showing real signs of pain for instance when he is shot or hit by a zombie a scream of pain that is loud enough to give away your position to anyone near you would be triggered depending on what weapon you were shot by so a makarov would have a lower decibel scream than say a enfield (this would also effect the visual differences but i'll get on to that later.) Another factor that would change the amount of pain you feel would be the place that the bullet hit so there would be pain hot spots on the body for instants the throat would cause much more pain to someone that the hand. The next thing is changes to the visual signs of pain which at the moment can be escaped by going into third person. But i would like to see things such as throbbing of dark colors and your third person vision becoming equally as messed up if it is left without painkillers or you have taken more pain that you can handle. Also I would like to see changes to painkillers because at the moment they're very unrealistic as there is no repercussions for taking say 100 boxes in a minute and they work stupidly quickly. So the first and something that i'm sure allot of people have spoken about is creating a durability for the boxes as it's stupid that you can only use a box of painkillers once and also if any of my ideas were implemented it would make it allot easier if you could reuse painkiller boxes. Secondly a thing I would find cool is for there to be lots of different types of painkillers that have different strengths. I could see this having lots of potential for instance if you were ill and in lots of pain you would have to make choices such as whether to take the antibiotics and the strong painkillers to stop both the illness and the pain completely and risk the chance of dying because of a deadly cocktail of drugs in your stomach or take weaker painkillers and not kill the pain completely but not have the chance of mixing dangerous drugs together So the first addition to painkillers that I think would be a good idea is to add a time for the painkillers to kick in say 5 minutes for it to stop your character crying out and then for it too slowly fix any problems with the vision. Another change to painkillers could be the chance of ODing if you take to many painkillers in a not spaced out time span I also this creating difficult choices for players such as having your character make outbursts or face the chance of ODing.Smaller side suggestions:Having to take painkillers with a drink,The chance of choking on painkillers and them being wasted,The option to take different amounts of painkillers e.g 1 or 2 at a time,Chance of having fits if in extreme amounts of pain for example a sniper to the balls.Thank you for reading and apologies for the poor layout, i'm new here. Also any suggestions would be much appreciated :D
beastoverlord 574 Posted January 16, 2013 You should include morphine with this too. I can shoot up all the morphine I want currently and nothing happens.
maxnmike 134 Posted January 16, 2013 Man, some of you folks want to make people spend vast amounts of time doing every little thing. Pretty soon you will not have time to play the actual game because you are spending so much time doing the little things. I don't want to micro manage every little aspect of the game nor do I want to have to spend long periods of time in menus trying to figure out how much of this or that to take. jayman9696 14 Posted January 16, 2013 The only thing that should be fixed is that you are not shaking in 3rd person. You can already pass out from shock and blood loss when in pain. You shouldn't be stupid enough to choke on painkillers. I guess you should be able to use the painkiller box more than once, but to balance this you should use more at a time or go in pain more. As for screaming it should only happen when shot. If it happened every time a zombie hit you that would get annoying. No need for varying power of painkillers. (already have morphine) The final thing is why would your screen get blurred when in pain? pain doesn't hurt your vision unless its from a concussion <--- possibly a good thing to add. Bribase 251 Posted January 17, 2013 I think the OP is overcomplicating things here but there are certainly some good ideas here. I think that the inclusion of screams of pain when shot or punched by a zombie is an excellent idea for a number of reasons:It's an excellent way to provide feedback to the person attacking. Not just for them to tell if their shots were on target or that their target is injured but still alive. But it also elicits emotion in the one doing the shooting. This can range from a deepened sense of guilt for attacking in the first place (we've all had that feeling) to a feeling of glee that you've won the encounter. It's a great way to convey that you've been injured without the HUD telling you so. DayZ seems to be moving in the direction of adding visual cues about your character than more stuff to look out for on the HUD. With a little nuance to the sound recording and hit detection a player could even be able to tell where they were hit and what kind of damage you have sustained e.g: the sound of being winded for a shot in the chest to differeing cires of pain if shot in the extremities. It provides a deeper level of gameplay. Players that recieve a less than fatal wound but a painful one let out an uncontrolable cry that attracts more zombies and gives up one's position to players that weren't aware of your prescence. People could even cause a wound from a distance and let the zombies "finish the job" without a major effect on their humanity.I'm all for the introduction of side effects to painkillers as well. This could range from a subtle but significant blurring to a player's vision (which could prove lethal in some areas) through to slower weapon handling, not being able to reload, look down the sight and bring their weapon to bear quite as quickly as they could with a clear head. Being in pain should not be as simple as having painkillers or needing to find them. There should be lasting side effects that don't necessarily stop your ability to fight but should make you think twice about necking them and continuing. (concussions)Even small amounts of pain and discomfort hampers your ability to concentrate. This translates well as a subtle blurring of your vision at long range. It all adds to a sense that your character is a human being, not a camera suspended a few feet from the floor of the gameworld. He can't just take a bullet to the knee, neck some meds and keep adventuring.
Tumoa 359 Posted January 17, 2013 (edited) i would like to see character holding its wound depending where shot might be hard to be implanted but totaly worth it example when shot in around abdomen he either hold left or right debending which was closer or shoulder same thing when shot in abdomen movment goes slower until fully healed and treated if shot in the arm action used to use arms will be painfull aiming will be harder too. if game added seasons bleeding will be slower if its hot bleeding is faster player can use cold thing to slow down bleeding. it would be just static animation depending where shot was closer Edited January 17, 2013 by Tumoa
Sourcarrot 27 Posted January 17, 2013 Max you wouldn't need to spend hours looking up how much of this and that to take as if you began ODing you would see side effects up until death for instance becoming very thirsty or something like that
