vilayer alternatives?

I am reasonably happy with my server so far after 3 months, it runs on the vilayer hive so it's not full blown private but a good medium I think.

I took over the 'trickery.net' name from another guy from our community who has got himself snowed under with work so we made a fresh start with me running it 3 months ago.

The first month we had a few problems and vilayer recognized this and added a week to our rental, fair play to them.

I log on this morning to see the server down, go into ACP to see 'server status: unknown' so I raised a ticket to see what is going on.

We're currently migrating servers in Europe onto higher performance hardware. This process will be happening over the next several hours. Your server will return to normal status in the next 1 to 3 hours.

If you have any other queries or issues don't hesitate to get in touch.

ok fair enough but an email warning of this happening would have been nice.

Do other providers do this alot? what alternatives are there for a similar service? (UK)

I'm not sure we want to go full on private, I am quite happy being on the vilayer public hive.

during the 3 months we do seem to have had a bit of downtime and hive related problems (tents/vehicles/spawning on the coast) but much of that seemed to be resolved (apart from the server doesn't spawn anywhere near as many vehicles as we would like, even after running out of bounds clear up and create vehicle scripts in admin control panel)

I'm not totally unhappy with vilayer but on the flipside I am trying to build up a player base and just as we get a new group of players something like this happens (last time it was moving onto a new hive followed by stuff not saving)

Just want to hear a bit of feedback from other players who made the move to another provider, or have a similar service from another provider :)

hi mate i use vilayer for my servers and i did get an email from them on Thursday about the move of servers

this is the email i received from them

Dear Robert,

We would now like to announce our new SSD server series for shared game hosting within Europe and New York. We will be migrating our current European and New York game server clients to this new hardware offering unto 40% performance improvements on both network connectivity of the location as well as increased memory on the nodes.

This upgrade is something we are performing over the next few days and you will be informed when your service has been migrated. New IP's will be allocated to your game server due to the migration so we are recommending that clients provide a domain based DNS address for their game servers to allow easy migration for their clients.

During the migration you may experience some downtime and your game service may be listed as 'unknown' within the ACP layer. When your game service has been migrated you will see the new ip within the ACP layer

hfb are another provider that gives a shared hive/simple setup but they are usa and dayz st offer good services when they have the servers in stock to get

thanks for the reply but I have not received the email, I have just checked again and checked junk and deleted folders. No email regarding this. I see your server is up, how long did this take?

to be honest mine hasnt been affected yet as far as i know neither server i have with them has but acp has been very slow so i think mines next on the list

Dont choose Defcon Servers. I am about done with them. I have been having trouble with them, getting into my admin control panel and getting to log files to deal with hackers. I contacted them about the fact when I try to download the log files I get an 404 error or when I finally get past 404 error it says server status unknown. They didn't help, they told me that I had to turn off the server to get files. Which...is pretty hard to do when you get a server status as unknown with no option to shut down OR you just 404 error. They closed that ticket without helping me at all and ultimately deleted it. Who deletes a ticket?

At the same I put in a second ticket after that just asking some basic questions like if we can whitelist our servers as an option or if they support private hives. Yes I know we can't whitelist but since the CS team for us is reportedly not existent I am hoping the devs will let us whitelist people to help deal with this until the standalone does happen. I can't upload any dayz antihack programs into the server files so I am sort of screwed and have to rely on a manual process to stop hackers. After they closed my ticket asking for help with admincp I was pretty dang frustrated. You can see how awesome that conversation became.

My server is still online, but the ACP layer has been offline since saturday evening at least. I've made a ticket and see what the response is, but I too haven't received an e-mail about possible downtime or hardware migration.

after the snotty emails regarding invoices for my mumble server - their website was in error and not producing invoices - I had in one afternoon emails saying invoice due, invoice overdue, service cancelled on my mumble and then another email later on explaining that their website wasn't producing invoices ontime.

I know mumble costs next to nothing but this really lowered my opinion of vilayer, had it been my DayZ server they did that to I would have been fuming.

anyway, dumped vilayer for mumble and went back to good old multiplay. I think when SA comes out and we don't get the private options I may do the same with DayZ server as multiplay host official ones.

hmm, received an email saying downtime expected early next week while they move stuff AGAIN.

so I think ok, only be a few hours, a day or two tops.

Update my server to latest release today and now the server won't start, raised a ticket this afternoon, no response and a downed server. looks like with this and the 'expected' downtime due I am not overly happy :(
