Draco122 412 Posted June 18, 2012 I'd go with the option for more "randomized" starting loadouts over being completely unarmed, have this current option as a Hardcore option instead.I'm not advocating that players be armed with massive firepower at game start, I'm suggesting maybe an empty pistol or perhaps some sort of pistol with very little ammo, like a Makarov with one or two magazines or perhaps some kind of improvised firearm / weapon that can be easily constructed for personal defence.Or in another option, have random spawn locations besides just the coast line, have someone spawn in the Forest, in an abandoned house, farm, building whatever, give something that allows players freedom to explore without creating a sole point which can be camped for bandits to kill and loot recently spawned players. diepepsi@gmail.com 22 Posted June 18, 2012 I think the opposite, I think we should spawn with nothing at all. But perhaps one band-aid (cloth, aka, ripping your shirt). But DayzDevs should up the spawn rate of low/lowest level guns in low level areas (like towns with nothing you can go inside of, or solo-closed buildings that you find now and then near the roads). This way you have a tiered structure of looting areas that are useful. Newbies go to lowbie towns\solo houses to get basics(Band aids, marcov, 1 clip, empty cans, soda, flashlights (flashlights should be in every house... I mean, I have several at my house, these should be really common...), then work their way up to larger towns. Also, means that no upper tier loot (AK mags/Beans) spawn in the lowbie towns, so higher end players could find the towns hard to camp cause they are worthless loot wise. The problem is shit heads, killing people who don't have any way to fight back. At least let them have the ability to kill you even if very slim, by waiting for them to move up to larger towns when they actually have guns. But this is key, shitty PVPers. DemonGroover 8836 Posted June 18, 2012 Here's a tip - when you spawn go prone, check your surroundings and then work from there. Spawning and then immediately running up the beach is a recipe for having your arse handed to you. This is the Zombie Apocalypse - act like you are in it. Of course you could just high tail it to the nearest enterable building in the hope that there is a weapon inside. You are a survivor, the aim is to live, pure and simple. Having no equipment means that moment you find your first weapon is pure joy, instead of the usual "Shit! Its only a frigging Makarov!" response.Enjoy
Payn 0 Posted June 18, 2012 in my opinion the no gun start is a great idea!people need to recognise that their main threat is the zeds and act like thatalso the avoiding zeds mechanics work great i often get away by fleeing into a house, wait till all zeds are inside, leaving the house the opposite door and hiding behind a near wall.i would suggest to increase the zombie threat a bit more (maybe more spawns near bildings like in 1.7.1, near a deer stand i saw on sunday more than 28 zeds it was really difficult to avoid all of them :p)and to remove the pvp for a week or somethingmaybe then people will recognise that it is in most cases better to work together instead of shooting on first sight
mitchdevano 0 Posted June 18, 2012 I have been playing this mod for quite some time now and I have completely enjoyed the experience up until now. Removing the original weapon just seems like a lazy quick fix because the developers are too fucking lazy to address the spawn issues. The super sonic bat sonar that zombies had was pretty shit but it was acceptable. The stealth so far is pretty fucking broken and you already have to take advantage of the bugs and glitches in order to survive. For example, stairs, trees and hills. Now this three fucking million yard hawk eyesight just topped off the jizz cake of this yogurt cannon patch. You just made the game incredibly more difficult for new players. To the people who are enjoying this new patch it is most likely because they enjoy the ability to kill of unarmed newbies. I might come back and play once the devs actually fix some of the issues instead of covering em up.
Strategos (DayZ) 190 Posted June 18, 2012 Having no gun at the start is perfect , it teaches you how to play the game properly. You learn how to avoid trouble rather than using your gun to resolve issues , which draws every kind of unwanted attention on yourself.
Grimm (DayZ) 0 Posted June 19, 2012 How often do you see people on the street which carries a gun? And how often do you see EVERYONE carry one? See' date=' just think about it and it makes perfect sense to start with only basic gear and without a gun. Much more fun this way too =)Difficulty = funIf we'd want a easier game we would just play WoW or some other gay game, right?[/quote']lol just about every American Household has a weapon of some sort in it. And I'm sure if the shit hit the fan like this mod suggest, I'm pretty sure that a flashlight would be the last thing on my list to get to defend myself. Oh and have you ever heard of a conceal and carry permit? Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there....ffs get a clue.
djkling 5 Posted June 19, 2012 depends where you live. If this happened in NYC all the guns would be in police stations and that one gun shop in Queens. Very few people own guns. We'd more likely be using hammers, clubs, crowbars, etc.If you live in NH (like I do) ir NV (where I used to live) you could find an arsenal in some homes. My house would be a gold mine if you could figure out how to open the safe...Melee weapons should be HUGELY accessible in this game, guns should stay right where they are. You want a gun, sneak around and kill zeds... but you can survive with your crowbar for a decent amount of time!
