zqpmxn 0 Posted January 12, 2013 I find it interesting that great maps like lingor island and fallujah were player created. I mean these maps are huge and yet there pretty detailed. If anyone could take a good guess and tell how long and how hard it is to make a decent map on DayZ when the standalone comes out that would be great. I'm thinking about making maps myself and I like the idea of balance on a map where no area is truly safe.
h3retic 224 Posted January 12, 2013 Chernarus took bohemia devs about 2 years to put togetherjust an FYI
Dancing.Russian.Man 1631 Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) Chernarus took bohemia devs about 2 years to put togetherjust an FYILingor Island and Fallelujah didn't take more than a few months at most.DayZ isn't two years old and those maps were doubtfully being worked on before DayZ came out.Edit; Welp. No idea about that opinion anymore. Edited January 13, 2013 by Dancing.Russian.Man
Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted January 12, 2013 (edited) The code for DayZ SA will be locked down so it won't be moddable. Also Heretic is correct. Chernarus took 2 years to create. Edited January 12, 2013 by Fraggle

Take a look at BI forum threads for each map and how long it actually took to finish them.

Never played on Fallelujah -- in DayZ or ARMA 2 -- and all I heard about Lingor Island is that it was third-party map that someone was able to put DayZ on. So to me it sounded like someone made the map post-release of the DayZ mod.
h3retic 224 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) Also the size of the maps comes into playchernarus is 15x15kmand if i am correct, most of the other maps are 10x10km (or 10x15km), in addition to having alot of water thus empty space Edited January 13, 2013 by h3retic

It would be pretty cool to have a map built specifically for a zombie apocalypse game but that would take a long time which is why even the standalone will be on Chernarus. There's a guy making one but I think he's doing it all by himself, including new buildings and objects so it won't be finished any time soon.
zqpmxn 0 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) Thanks guys, a lot of useful information from all of you. And who knows if anymore good maps will be put onto DayZ by the development team. Edited January 13, 2013 by zqpmxn
