SA: Bandit zombie penalties

Recommended Posts

Well, here's my idea for making bandits less prevalent and removing some of the KOS mentality.

Harder zombies for bandits.

For isntance, if you're a -30000 humanity bandit, zombies detect you from further away, they run after you faster, they'll ignore people with higher humanity to chase you, and you spawn more zombies whenever you're near a settlement. This way, if a bandit is up on a hill sniping into a settlement (AKA: Greifing) he'll start attracting zombies. Whereas say, a hero up on that same hill, taking down bandits in the town, wouldn't have to worry about it so much. Then there would be disincentives to being a bandit. Especially seeing as anyone who becomes a bandit and gets killed, would then have trouble getting their gear back, seeing as zomies would be more attuned to finding them eating their faces when they respawn and go looking for loot.

And inb4 'hurrrr, that doesn't make sense'. Of course it doesn't make sense. It's not meant to make sense. It's meant to make deathmatching a bit less of an attractive option and turn it into survival. Maybe bandits will start picking and choosing their targets if it makes the game harder for them. They'll have to start actually LOOKING at the survivors, and picking the ones that have decent gear to hunt down. Because if you're going to be a bandit, and make life hard for yourself, fuck doing it for nothing!

*Addendum* A scaling system whereby low humanity has not a whole lot of negative impact, and super-low humanity does. Add in the fact that shooting someone who is only armed with a axe/crowbar/makarov and certainly shooting unarmed players, gives you a massive hit to your humanity, and shooting new spawns would drop off quite a bit, I think.

I would just actually like sniper rifles to attract much more attention, guns in general really. The number of times you hear far off gunshots and the zeds around you seem deaf is a tad silly.

But penalising bandits? No, i just cant see it happening. Gameplay choice should have no penalty or reward given out by the game. But like your sig there should be more bandit hunters out there,

Bandits aren't people who KoS. Those people are just cold blooded killers.

Sure, no fault for 'choices'. But what about the people who 'choose' to just turn the game into a mindless CoD-like clusterfuck of snipers sitting on hills overlooking places and shooting unarmed players?

Currently, the only penalty they have is the humanity system. Which is laughable considerin their only interaction with other players is the distant sound of a sniper rifle and the occasional person who might sneak up on them and murder them.

Greifers need a deterrent. And while the only way to differentiate between players is the humanity system, griefers and bandits will be lumped into the same group.

It's a playstyle. It shouldn't be penalised.

But I don't know why everyone keeps mentioning newspawns being sniped. If you're constantly dying from a player sitting on a hill hundreds of meters away, obviously you aren't very good at the game. I've never actually been killed like that either, nor do I know anyone who has.

I've never been killed by it either. But it's pretty prevalent to the new players of the game. In my few jaunts through Cherno and Elektro recently, I've found countless bodies of new spawns killed in the firehouses, the fields, and etc. I've never been killed by a sniper while in cherno or elektro, but I've had a bandit literally come into the building I was in and attempt to kill me (I chased him off with a crowbar, lol), and I was murdered not long afterwards by a chopper crew who were strafing up and down the coast looking for fresh spawns to kill.

Just because it doesn't happen to YOU, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. A quick jaunt through Cherno or Elektro on a server that's a few hours old tells you all the stories you need to know. Dead guys with no weapons, and tons of food/supplies on them, because some guy sniped them because he had nothing else to do.

I actually tend to find new players, unarmed ones, being gunned down by AKs and other Assault Rifles, as opposed to snipers.

I don't see the point penalising bandits, I dislike players that kill for a laugh though. But bandits that actually rob you/take you as a hostage or whatever reason that's a bit more fun than being killed. Those I tell you, are the best bandits out there :) I got robbed once, they stole my beanz!

I don't agree with the tougher zombies suggestion, but I do agree that humanity should have a bigger impact then just changing your skin.

There should be both pros and cons to being a bandit or a hero. I wouldn't know what though, but I will think about it and post again if I come up with something good. :)

EDIT:

I got robbed once on Namalsk. I was riding on a motorcycle through the woods when a Ghillie dude shot me with some sniper rifle that broke my legs and I passed out.

When I was passed out he fixed me up with bandages and morphine. Then he started going through my bag. Took all mah beans!

He grabbed me and held on to me until I woke up, then he said if I turned around he would kill me. I asked if I could take my bike,

and that was ok with him, but my bike was stuck between a couple of logs and I couldn't get it out from there.

So he told me to get off and drop my weapon on the ground. When I did that he jumped on the bike and got it loose for me! :)

My heart was still racing, so when I got on the bike I went full speed downhill through the forest, about 150m from the ghillie dude I went down in a small puddle of water and the bike was lost. *facepalm*

The ghillie dude must have been laughing his ass off if he saw me.

Haha, I always liked moments like that... On Chernarus I always ride my bike into of a pond outside of Cherno because I think it's grass! :(

No... Weapons should attract more attention though.

And regarding peeps sniping freshspawns, i love it. Whenever i get sniped by freshspawn killing bitches, you just go back to AXE them a question.

penalties for low humanity people is just too much: everytime i respawn i have to kill 2-3 people only to get beanz and matches..i end with the white scarf and it would be so bad if zombies would start trying to kill me more than those survivor skin douches i left behind. an di'm not a bandit, i only fire back with 15 years of fps gameplay..

No to penalizing or even pros/cons for being bandit or hero. The penalty should come from within the game, i.e. the survivors group together and form a police group or other groups that actively hunt down bandits, known sniping locations etc. As long as there are weapons (of any kind) there will be pvp.
