I would really like to see the "VSS Vintorez" ingame, would fit very well ingame imo.

No way!

I don't have anything against having a Vintorez in the game, but not the current one. It is currently both overpowered and glitched!

First off, let's examine the actual real-world ballistics of the VSS. It fires the 9x39mm SP-5 round (the SP-5 is specifically mentioned in the config). Examine the chart and compare the energy levels:

FYrQ0ku.png

As you can see, the Vintorez has similar energy levels to non-magnum handguns. It's simply not a powerful weapon in real life since they have to keep the bullet below the speed of sound in order to avoid a sonic crack.

However, Bohemia gave it a "hit" value of 13, which means in DayZ it would (but doesn't, keep reading) do 9388 blood damage. More than a 7.62 NATO round and more than any other rifle short of the .50 calibers. Absurd, and a failure on Bohemia's part.

B-b-b-but that's not the worst part. Someone set the "typicalSpeed" value to 150 m/s. The typicalSpeed value dictates the velocity at which the bullet will do the damage listed in the "hit" value. The muzzle velocity is 300 m/s. That means it does 26 damage at the muzzle and similar damage within medium range. That's the same as an M107. That's 37552 blood damage!

So, we have a weapon that does .50 BMG-level damage at the close ranges at which it is meant to be used and is completely silent. No way, José!

Until Bohemia reduces the damage to appropriate levels (at most, it should do roughly the same damage as an AK-74), I consider this a bugged weapon, an overpowered weapon, and most importantly, an UNREALISTIC weapon, and I don't want to see it in ArmA, in DayZ or anywhere else.

From what I hear, they're redesigning the weapons, which I'm sure means balancing. And I'm always up for more russian weapons.

Well if you don't have anything against a VSS Vintorez ingame why did you have to post some passive agressive real life argument that you turned into a balance discussion. If you knew anything about game balance you would know that gameplay > realism. As much as i love DayZ sense of realism and such i wouldent want to nerf a gun to the extreme just so that some wiki gunsmith would be happy.

He said he has a problem with the current one, and from reading his post, it seems like it would be EXTREMELY overpowered. As much damage as a .50 cal sniper, and full auto, AND silenced? Think about whether or not you really want that in the game.

DayZ isn't about "game balance". I don't support balancing. I'm about realism.

If you read my post (reread it), I said in real life, the VSS is not a powerful gun. In the game it's a one-shot instakill. I wouldn't have a problem with it being a one-shot instakill if it was powerful in real life, but it's actually quite weak compared to most rifles.

Bohemia Interactive made it do a lot of damage because it is one of those "secret Spetsnaz weapons" and therefore must be super deadly! That's the only explanation I can see.

So you support unrealistic damage values? The weapon is flawed because someone made a dumb decision (actually, two dumb decisions).

I just want the VSS in-game to act like the VSS in real life.

I'm in agreement, guns balance themselves in real life, why not emulate that?

I haven't looked into the game code, but does the damage value take into account fragmentation (5.56) and tumbling(5.45/7.62)?

No, it's a fixed value which is modified (linearly) by the projectile velocity, so damage drops with velocity and range. Effects like tumbling, fragmentation or expansion are not modelled.

Not suprising that they dont take any of that in effect. TBH i dont think they will for SA either but i hope they do, i havnt heard anything about it so i dont really know.

That would be a lot to work out though with all the variables.
