Basics Explanation of the Game's Save Progress

Can someone explain to me how to disconnect properly ? Is there such a thing ? I mean, do you just disconnect and it saves where you are in the map ? What happens when you're not online ? Where is your character at ?

If someone can explain that basically, i'd appreciate it.

Logout = Save = You are not in the world, so nothing can happen to you

When you come back you will relog at the same location where you logged out.

If you die with a lot of toys...you still die, lose everything and respawn at the coast.

The only possibilty to get your things is trying to get to your corpse in time and loot.

You character position will be saved if you play on a Public Official Hive Server, you can switch servers (Public) and continue you progress.

However if you play on a Private Hive Server you will need to connect to that very same to continue.

Some server hosts do have shared Hive (private), which will allow you to change servers, as long as you stay with the same host.

I do not like this last option, it is unclear and apt to error's (in my own experience).

Your status is saved at periodic intervals. Make sure that if you do something that affects your status (e.g. eat food) you give it a minute or two for this to be saved. I have been burned before by eating my last food when my hunger was flashing, then logging out. When I logged back in, my hunger was still flashing, but my food was gone!

One last tip about this...

Always log off under a tree, and away from popular places, as your character will "appear" some seconds before you gain control of it; so logging off inside a market, for example, is dangerous, people might be there and see your chars logging in, and shoot you before you are able to move/react.

Avoid logging off inside vehicles, near ridges or in stairs.

BTW the proper way to log off is using the menu options -> Esc -> Abort -> Disconnect -> Disconnect from server; remember the last one or two minutes might be lost as Iegle just said. You have a record inside a table in that server database, all your items, status and position are recorded there.

Thanks, guys.. I'm assuming the 'Hide Unofficial' check box in DayZCommander does actually do what it's supposed to do ?
