141 Dayz and counting

Recommended Posts

12 or 13. Only played about 5 hours though.

Maybe we should count hours survived while in-game as opposed to days alive.

Yeah but, how many in-game hours is that? And just how careful are you being? Are you the kind that sits in the forest and occasionally comes out to just look at the outskirts of a town?

If I logged onto my main hive character, it would probably be like 90 days - which isn't impressive because I haven't played on that character in, well, about 2 months.

However I have had multiple characters that have lasted 30 - 50 days whilst playing for a few hours every day.

Nobody survives for 142 days unless you haven't logged in for an excessively long period of time.

Unless you have the patience to sit in a corner of the woods drinking water from ponds and eating wandering livestock, in which case I applaud your ridiculous efforts.

I'm pretty much brand new. How can you tell how long you've survived in game and/or how many days? Not all servers have that top right information tab right?

I made it a whole week (about 5 hours a day). Got brave and went to NW airfield for better gear. Found more guns then I could carry and spent about 2 hours deceiding which gun to take. Heard shots coming from south end of the airfield waited about another hour in the fire station before trying to run to the tower. That's when I heard a shot and was then well on my way to restarting.

I'm on the 8th day but my record was 54 I think...when I died I was ok because I died from a shot not a hacker and I can accept that! :D

But... When you start the game, it says Day X.

Isn't that a real measure of how many hours have you survived with that character?

Because I didn't play for a week or so, and when I logged in it said Day 2, which was more or less the time I had survived.

Well, I play on private hive and it's probably 40 hours or something. Got M4A3, M107 and a Glock 17, but no NVGs or Rangefinders.

"141 DayZ"

HOHOHOOOOOOOOH

WE GOT A WISE GUY HERE ,YE SHEE?

But on-topic again, I really don't care how long my character lasts. I'm sure my public hive character has been up for a while, but I don't keep track.

I just focus on the after-action statistics...

I think it only counts days you log in. even if only for a couple minutes. It's not really a metric for accomplishment.

It counts the ones you dont log in also, making this quite errelevent.

That's not true. I'm on day 221 and I certainly played at least 1 hour in 150 or more of those. I certainly don't do exciting things like raiding the NWAF on a daily basis, but I also don't sit in a corner all the time. Private hives contributed a lot, since I can use them for more exciting and risky gameplay if I get bored, but I enjoy just being alive for as long as I can on the official.

1. The obvious, I don't play crowded servers, and if there are more than 10 players I am extra careful. Your chances of getting killed increase dramatically on servers with more than 10 players. Also, hackers intending to do anything silly to kill all players often target crowded servers.

2. Also obvious, I don't go to big cities, and when I need to go into towns, I do it during the night and avoid buildings with a single entrance, like churches and the dark wooden houses. I usually only go into cities and towns when I need a new tent or blood bags.

3. I avoid making noises as much as I can, even silenced weapons, since they can be heard pretty well. Vehicles are an obvious no-no.

4. I got all my military gear and ammo from deer stands. Sounds boring, but I have a route where I can go to about a dozen of them within 1 hour while avoiding open fields.

5. I avoid making enemies. That sounds silly, considering most bandits will kill you for no reason at all, but it's a lot easier to stay alive if you're not a jerk. I don't kill players unless I really have to, I don't steal cars or stuff from tents, I don't go for loot someone has just fought for, like heli crashes. Yes, Chernarus is big, there are many servers, and without labels people are unlikely to go hunting you for revenge, but I've seen more than once someone who just got killed resorting to hacks to do that.

6. I realized that almost every single time I died, it was because I joined a team that decided to do something stupid, like going after a rival team or raiding the NWAF, and I was like, "ok, I think it's too risky, but let's do it". Since I'm focused on survival, I only play solo now, and I'm very, very careful when I help someone. That means stripping myself of gear that might tempt them, asking them to put their gun away before they can see me (and I really mean away, in a backpack or on the floor, not just putting it down).

Finally, I think a lot before doing anything, and I think that's part of the joy of playing DayZ. A lot of it happens in your head. Yesterday I heard silenced shots and went prone, while looking around for the shooter. I noticed a heli crash after crawling for a while and figured it was someone clearing the zombies. The guy then opened fire with an M14 on the zombies a few meters away, completely careless, and I gave it a lot of thought if I should kill him or not. I hailed him, while very well hidden, and when I realized he was a bandit, moved away and ignored the heli crash completely. I still think I should've killed him, but I just got the hero skin.
