finkone 320 Posted January 5, 2013 Ok lately there has been a high number of threads asking if they should buy Arma II, but they are not buying Arma II for Arma, they are buying it for DayZ. I know, I know - they paid nothing for DayZ... but really guys, do you think that Arma II climbed back up to 8th most purchased game on Steam because of ACE/ACRE and Wasteland? Hell no.With that said...Pros and Cons of Buying Arma II for DayZ MODPros :You can play the MOD of DayZ NOWYou can get your feet wet and not be so green for the standalone (learning the map and so forth)You can try to find friends that you'll be attacking the standalone withCons:Do you have extra money? Regardless if its on sale - you are most likely completing a impulse buy to play DayZ.Do you even know what the Arma II itself is about? Have you research Arma II Arrowhead as a game itself, or just DayZ?Do you think you will play the DayZ MOD when the standalone releases? (I know I only will if the standalone is down for some reason)Pros and Cons of the DayZ MOD itselfPro:Very exciting to run into other playersVery realistic in terms of zombie survival MMOCons:Many hackers (private hives safer... but I like public)Many bugs/glitches/errors (It is a MOD after all)Many young kids now (It wasn't always KOS...)No end-game, which leads to high PVP, which is bad for a guy like you trying to learn the ropes. ;)I've played Arma II for years, and have enjoyed it. It can be a frustrating and exciting game all in itself. A lot of people popping up here - I can tell, are not Arma II players. With that said I'd hate to see them simply spend some extra cash because they can't hold themselves off since there is no news about a release...My final words to guys thinking about getting into DayZ...Since we have NO NEWS AT ALL - it can be hard, hold off. If you are doing this simply to play DayZ - just wait for the standalone. The standalone is going to be more enjoyable, with less script kiddies (... I hope.)Think of it from a logical standpoint. Arma III is also coming out this year, DayZ standalone is right around the corner... Arma II for a veteran Arma guy like myself... will finally start to collect dust...So - check back here, EVERY DAY, because the release of information about this game is in riddles... but I'd say... JUST WAIT.
barrett_killz 229 Posted January 5, 2013 Actually I bought ArmA II in August just for the DayZ mod, because I didn't understand the system with Operation Arrowhead which makes up Combined Operations and all this. But with the time I started playing ArmA II apart, and I didn't regret any second that I bought the game. Just think - I spent just $15 and I have the games (ArmA II and ArmA II Operation Arrowhead), I can easily play the DayZ mod and I can play many many more mods for ArmA II. Tip for everyone - just use your logic and think - should you buy ArmA II (you're not buying DayZ mod) or not.
kwairt 0 Posted January 5, 2013 If you want to get your feet wet and have some fun then sure. Just be warned there are alot of hackers in this game still and even with active admins they will slip through the cracks and gank you :) If you can handle losing everything because of that then sure buy the game there is alot of fun to be had. However stand alone will be much much better. Learning curve is fairly high due to bugs and inventory system etc. Items are easy to lose if your not aware of the bugs etc. Some times you drop something and it's gone forever. Or if you try to put a rifle in your pack it automatically tried to move all your ammo with it and anything that doesn't fit will vanish. So there are alot of issues with the mod really. If you can handle them and the hackers you will probably enjoy the game. There is really no game quite like this despite what other developers claim. I really have a hard time playing other games now. Like for example Far Cry 3 is an awsome game but man it's just tooo easy. I find myself coming back to Day Z simply because of the challenge (hackers aside). When you do finally get some weapons and gear up it's very interesting. In your early days you will just be trying to survive. Eventually you evolve into something completely different though.
IhumpMyCatFish 3 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) you should buy ARMA II for ARMA II, because this game is amazing. What alot of people don't understand is that they bought one of the greatest military simulator, which has so much capability and potential. which is how DayZ was made :DI will be playing ARMA II long after the dayz standalone comes out. And i will be buying ARMA 3 because that looks supar kewlll. :) Edited January 6, 2013 by IhumpMyCatFish

Many hackers. Come off that mostly private server - play on more populated public server (I know, it can be scary) and you'll see. It won't take long.Arma II is great, I'm not saying it is not. It will become old news once Arma III hits. At that point I think my Arma II copy will no longer be used, seeing as there will be better, more optimized and more realistic engines (Arma III) out... sjc1138 (DayZ) 15 Posted January 6, 2013 I hardly come across hackers any more.Yes, it is definitely worth buying the game now. DayZ is a very entertaining game that will keep you playing it right up until the standalone comes out. Also it means you will have the general concept of the game (although I don't know if any different gameplay features are being implemented into standalone).
pazur13 27 Posted January 6, 2013 Worth buying now? Definitelly no. I do not say DayZ is a bad game, but you can be patient and get Standalone soon, or buy game now and pay for it again later, when Standalone releases.
1clash1 58 Posted January 6, 2013 You definitely should. Not just for DayZ but for all the other mods and the Vanilla game itself. There's the coop mod 'Insurgency' which gives your team a base and you have to go out in groups and fight AI in towns looking for weapon caches and destroying them. It's good fun. Then there's the Wasteland mod, which is really fun, it pits two teams against each other and other independent players, with base buildings and missions . There's also Takistan life, an RPG mod there's also pretty popular.
Lebenese 1 Posted January 6, 2013 Everyone is whining about Hackers :P never ever ran into a hacker. Just chose the right private hive with lots or players ! And I even play on public servers at times and still no hackers. I bought arma II for dayz on Christmas Day instead of waiting and ill be sure to buy the dayz standalone a while after its release. Every bit of money the dev. team can get will help this game evolve!
