Take ideas from Wasteland Mod

Recommended Posts

I have been playing alot of the wasteland mod for arma 2. They do alot of things right without modding the game. Some of the things I like are the base building blocks and how u can flip a car back over if you crash it. The flipping car over would be huge. This would fixed having to wait on a server restart for the car to flip over. Maybe someone that Works on the mods could look at adding the Base building blocks and Flip car to the dayz mod. I would also like to see something like the mission system in wasteland added to dayz. If I knew how to mod the game I would add this myself.

In real life can you flip a car? This mechanic might work if it requires more than one person but not just you and I like DayZ's only mission to survive, I like the whole sandbox survivial and nothing else. (for DayZ) Edited by MacabreLlama99

He is refering to a quad or motorbike that is "carryable" meaning you can move it around and unflip it which is quite possible. Fo a car you should at least need 4 ppl, my buddy and i flipped car to the side while working on it and it was already quite difficult even after i salvaged the car including engine and transmission excluding axles.

I am still wondering, they say DayZ is based on Wasteland so why did they remove these options in the first place?

Bahahaha, so your saying arma's engine is like real life?? Maybe after some heavy acid trips lol. I like the ability to flip cause of right now the pyshics of this game is pure garbage. I like what wasteland has done with being able to correct the problem in short term, imho.

The point of Arma is a realistic military simulator, so yes I do.

The DayZ Standalone was announced to have underground base-building long before Wasteland even existed.

(If my understanding of Wasteland's announcement date is correct.)

This is True, but does the vehicle physics achieve this? No. So there for this flip addition is quite nice for when the engine goes crazy and does strange thigs.

The flip car is sweet. We nee to all understand this is just a game. Bugs happen. Having things like Flip car will just help us enjoy the game more. Ok maybe it is not perfect. But allowing us to flip it would allow more gameplay. Also within the Wasteland mod that is just a MPmission file with no modding to the game you can tow other cars and put bikes and ATVS into trucks with enough space. I know that wasteland, dayz and Dynamic Zombie Sandbox where all parts of eachother. The mission system in Wasteland is sweet and it really added PVP to the game. I understand what Dayz is meant to be. But for the game to live past 6 months to a year it needs some kind of mission system. If not server based then player based. Adding things like towing cars and base building blocks that think that is a no brainer. I understand if dayz does not add some of this stuff. Just would like to see it added.

Not a fan of the underground base building but we need something we can have. I am talking about the Dayz group adding the base building blocks from wasteland into dayzmod now .. Dayzmod is to be the testing ground for new ideas.

Didn't learn enough from WarZ, did you? You can't just blatantly copy one thing from something else and slap it onto something you made, in the game industry. Even though nobody can copyright a game mechanic, the people will be up in arms about it regardless of what the law says. (Which is the case with WarZ.)

And.. While DayZ mod is/was used to sketch out ideas for the standalone, it's not going to be continuously used to try out ideas first. Because now that they have the standalone, they can freely modify DayZ as they please, regardless of 'engine limitations.' (To some degree.)

Again if i knew how to mod arma i would add the cool stuff from wasteland and put it into dayz just to see how it would work .

If you did that, everyone who tried to join your server would be prevented to play because of invalid dayz_code.pbo unless they downloaded it from somewhere where you made it available. Same with any and all files that you had to add for it.

Wasteland was made by the Same guy that is working on Dayz. So we would not be stealling anything. Modding is modding .. You take some ideas from one group and put int into another. As long as you have their ok it is all good.

When I think of this I think like Vietnam red gook shit, I think it would be a great addition, but not some mind craft shit. I mean like you need wood to expaned your chamber or have a cave in(think great escape) or maybe you need candles just to see cause a flash light would run outta batterys and it should take a lot and I mean a lot of time to build these underground bases...... I'm a lone wolf so underground is the only chance I got for surval you should see what I got IRL (: its quite nice.......

I am half way tipsy so fukk a spelling B

I'd support vehicle flipping for ATVs and motorbikes, but not for proper automobiles. You flip a UAZ, man, that thing's gonna stay flipped. Inventory should still be accessible, though, and we should be able to siphon the fuel out.

"As long as you have their ok it is all good."

That I agree with, wholeheartedly.

But, I tried looking around for about half an hour on who made the Wasteland mod, and quite frankly, I couldn't find anything. (Meaning, I can't say you're lying, nor can I say that you're correct.)

So would you mind finding me a link to an official site or something? Where it clearly says that it was made by 'Rocket' Dean Hall?

No offence Dobrowney but ArmA is a realistic army simulator and DayZ is even more realistic excluding the zombies and is aimed to be realistic, so flipping a car with one person is never going to happen, only if several people flipping and/or a car helps is this going to ever happen.

I can see mod crossovers happening when the SA comes out, what better way of improving a game when 2 of the best combine ideas?

This will happen to some degree of less, New Ideas are a great way of prolonging an already established idea

I have never flipped a car by a bug.. If you crash your car, it's your damn fault.

Bikes and ATV's should be the only vehicles that can be flipped.

It's pretty damn hard to flip an ATV back over.

Also ARMA 2 is to realistic military shooters that Half-Life 2 is to a science simulator.

ATVs are easy to flip over, but as sutinen said in the post above.

Tonic made the mod http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?140070-TVT-CO-55-Wasteland took me 5 mins to find the link .. think that is the same tonic working for Dayz
