SmashT 10907 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) It's using steam and VAC. Accounts will be tied to your steam account so as long as you don't lose access to that then you won't be able to lose your account.Steam have some pretty decent security measures in place to prevent steam accounts being stolen, including steam guard which when enabled requires anyone accessing your account from a different PC to authenticate it using a code sent to your email, even if they know your steam password they still won't be able to access it unless they also have access to your email. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 29, 2012 There's lots of other measures being taken too but it's complicated and frankly I don't get involved in the technical stuff too much.
Xellial 1 Posted December 29, 2012 There's lots of other measures being taken too but it's complicated and frankly I don't get involved in the technical stuff too much. That's fine, just knowing it'll be using the steam protection makes me happy enough (somebody tried to access it once, and they couldn't, because it required Email verification. Aha!)
iegle 117 Posted December 29, 2012 Yeah that's almost certainly not the reason you were banned.@iegleGOG for some reason sell the same copy of OA to everyone, including the same banned CD Key. They then send you your own separate unique CD key along with a CD Key changer to update the generic banned key to the one you purchased. That isn't really an issue with BattlEye, it's an issue with GOG. Look at it from BattlEye's perspective, if you (and others) are appealing a valid banned CD key then they aren't going to lift it.You hadn't updated your CD key to the one you were sold and were instead using the generic banned one GOG give to every person that buys the game before they change it. It really has nothing to do with DayZCommander.Well, as a test I just launched DayZ Commander without the admin privlidges and you are correct, the game ran fine. Perhaps it is the generic CD key from GOG that was the cause of my issue. I do recall installing my authentic key, but cannot be sure of the timing.Still, this only backs up my point. If BattleEye banned me for using the generic key that was supplied with the copy I purchased from GOG, then they would have known this was the cause of my ban and been able to help me resolve the problem rather than leaving me to sort it out for myself. My appeal e-mail was sent to them over 2 months ago, and I never received a response.
SmashT 10907 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) Maybe they didn't know at the time and just saw multiple appeals from people sharing a banned key. Only reason I know is because I kept seeing appeals for the exact same GUID (#a796c9 to be precise) that mentioned they had just purchased the game from GOG and were banned immediately. Seems to usually occur when people don't run GOG's provided CD Key changer as admin or maybe their changer is just buggy and doesn't work sometimes. galhast 6 Posted December 30, 2012 Considering battleye has been known for banning non-exploitive users... myself included... I'm inclined to believe the OP, and agree. They are terrible support.
Dankine 377 Posted December 30, 2012 Considering battleye has been known for banning non-exploitive users... myself included... I'm inclined to believe the OP, and agree. They are terrible support. The one time they were "known" to do this they apologised and reversed the bans. Most of the rest seem to be people seeking to give them a bad name. aussiestig 681 Posted December 30, 2012 BattlEye may ban people by accident on the odd occasion, but if the ban is not justified it will be lifted. If you've been told that your CD key was used to hack, then it was used to hack. So, my guess is you got curious at one point and either started hacking, or you tried to download a bypass, and your CD-key was stolen.
OrLoK 16185 Posted December 30, 2012 Hello thereMy two cents. The Email, I thought, was very courteous and actually gave the OP another route to solve his issue.Regardless, I find the title of the post somewhat contentious "be careful"? of what? "horrible with support"? How?*If* it is a false positive then BE will soon be on the case as they have been in the past. We've had cases before in here claiming wrongdoing and supposedly with proof which have turned out to be bogus.Look at the GoG user in this thread? At first it's BE's fault when actually the issue is with GoG. That's out of BE's remit.OP may not have deliberately scripted, but at the end of the day probably did something to compromise his/her key. It's the most likely explanation.RgdsLoK
