Stopping Bleeding more effectively + Blood Regeneration

Recommended Posts

I have an idea about bleeding out. This might seem a little cheesey but it seems bleeding very rarely stops on its own without a bandage, causing death from full health from one zombie attack.

What if when you went prone, you "Put pressure on the wound" and it had a 1% chance to stop bleeding every "Tick" of damage as long as you remain completely still and prone.

This way, it will not be too overpowered so players will still want to apply bandages. (and probably have to because they will still lose alot of blood) But if they can find some quiet spot to lie down, they might be able to stop the bleeding if they are out of bandages.

In real life, when you are hurt, the body heals naturally very slowly over time. Having an extremely slow blood regeneration could work if its done right. You will only regenerate blood if your food and water are above halfway.

Lastly, while logged out you should be considered "Resting". While logged out, hunger and thirst still go down instead of freezing but much more slowly, while you regenerate blood slightly faster, even if your food and thirst are below halfway.

I'd enjoy your input on this.

Well if your hunger and thirst goes down when logged out then everyone will starve to death overnight

They will go down at an extremely reduced rate, like 2 weeks tops to starve, etc. Something tog ive the notion that your still "Alive" even when logged off.

The thing is, that little won't make a difference to regular players, it'll only kill off those that don't play for a while, which is totally unfair.

Lets not do the log out hunger thing, but I like everything else.

I agree with everything you stated except for the passive decrease in stats. This implication may sound great but may end up in a backfire. The being prone to stop bleeding however sounds wonderful something like what metal gear solid 2 does where you have to crouch or prone to stop or regenerate blood. i do want to say that going prone and rolling a 1/100 chance every tick of blood loss sounds great but regenerating no. this would defeat the purpose of finding blood and blood transfusions.

Slow blood regeneration could work out if it only brings you so far back (caps at a certain number) and does not do it in any timely fashion; that certainly wouldn't obsolete blood bags or hunting for meat.

I guess you are right, ironicly I was inspired by games in the mgs series (I'm a huge Metal Gear fanatic, guess you can call me a Metal Gearhead, heh.)

Metal Gear Solid 2 had the "Crouch/Prone and lie still to stop bleeding" mechanic and Metal Gear Solid 3 had the "Health slowly regenerates, a little faster if your well fed." and the "Having the game turned off means your resting, and you heal a little faster" system.

Anyways I thought of the very slow decay of thirst and hunger because I can see people abusing the system. (Like if they are starving to death, they could just logout and wait a few days for the blood to regenerate, then log back in and play, searching for food, then logout again when low on blood, rinse and repeat.)

Perhaps other injuries should go away over time, too. In real life if I'm in pain, I don't stay in pain endlessly until I take some asprin. Maybe pain, broken bones, and sickness should have a very small chance to heal over time. This way the medical supplies should still be just as important, but if you don't have those super rare antibiotics, you could have a chance to get better if you don't mind coughing constantly for a long time. You should have maybe a slightly higher chance to heal if you are considered "Resting" (Logged out.)

Just a couple ideas.

And about blood regen being "overpowered" it will refill at a realistic rate, so to heal without ANY medical attention will take a very long time. I'm not sure what the rate should be at, though. Perhaps ten blood every few minutes? The regen will only kick in after 1 minute has passed without you taking any damage. (It probably wouldn't matter much because the regeneration is extremely slow.) This reworking seem alright?

You aren't a Metal Gear Solid fan, are you? This is essentially the healing mechanics for Metal Gear Solid 3, word for word. You heal your health when your stamina is full and you can staunch bleeding by holding still and laying low.

I think this is absolutely a good concept. It means if you just got shot by some asshole or killed that last zombie, you can in a pinch, staunch the bleeding and not have to be dependent on a pretty Israeli bandage to get out of that situation. It also makes stealthy survival more feasible if you can outrun the zombies and just find a place to apply pressure.

Blood regeneration is logical, but you should have a very significant time after being wounded before it kicks in. Say an hour before you gain 150 ish blood per hour after. And no to anything while logged out. The current system allows far too much abuse logging out in combat to begin with - rewarding it with a healed character overnight is not going to help.

Read thought some of this. Kind of the same topic. http://dayzmod.com/f...estoring-blood/

I do think you should have the option on the scroll wheel to put pressure on the wound and it should leave you defenseless.

The thing is you can combat log and then wait 3 days and your character can be completely healed... Fair? Realistic? It should all happen in game.
