Playing with my friends

Recommended Posts

Me and a couple of friends just recently bought the game in the steam sale and im just wondering how can we play together? Now i understand that the spawns are random and you can predict where you are going to land, but i would like to know what ways are there for us to find each other in game?

Thanks in advance, noobish lad :D

Firstly, you should get a teamspeak server going so you can all voice com even though you're all spread out across the map. Additionally, all the spawns are along the coast so you have a reasonable chance to spawn relatively close to one another. When you spawn in, it tells you in the bottom right of the screen where you are. You have to pay attention because it only happens on spawn in. Use an online map to orient yourselves until you have an ingame map. I would say however, that the goal of your first night playing together should merely be to all group up, it could take a couple of hours to manage that. Welcome to the game and good luck.

If you use DayZ Commander to manage your favourite servers, you can add your friends to a buddy list and then see if they're online and which server they're on. However, once you're all on the same server, you'll need to use teamspeak to co-ordinate and meet-up.

The advice I give to new players is to skip the public servers, and get straight onto a private whitelisted server. I can't believe I wasted so may weeks initially playing on the public hive where there is so much 'shooting-on-sight', clan banditry, hacking and mindless deathmatching in Electro/Cherno. The game can offer so much more.

If you're in Europe, the Wireworld UK server I play on is great for noobs! We only usually have between 5-25 players on, so you have enough space and time to gear-up, repair vehicles and pitch some tents (and steal stuff from other people) during the quieter times, but you can easily find some PvP action during the busier times.

Nearly everyone uses the server's teamspeak, so you can jump into a channel and join up with some players for the evening informally without having to join a clan, or just make a channel for you and your friends, and play against the rest of us. The rule is: don't shoot people in your own TS channel, but everyone else (except new spawns) is a legitimate target.

Wireworld runs the very latest community beta patch. Follow the instructions in the above link - basically join the lobby and get kicked (this is so your player name and id is logged in the database), then email the address in the 'kick message' with your GUID, and finally download the latest beta (3 PBO files) from the link you're given. The details of the TS server are in the lobby message if you get stuck.

thanks for the introduction! i have a couple of questions tough. How do i know if a server is whitelisted? and Is it ok for us to use skype to communicate and TS is like being a part of the server kind of thing?

DayZ commander has a function to hide all non-main hive servers, so you won't see them if you're going for main hive. Incedentally, I am looking myself for a private hive to play on as I was just hacker killed for the 2nd time in as many days, and I've just had enough. Bye bye hero skin!

Yeah, Skype or TeamSpeak is fine to use... the game has built in Voice over Network, but no one likes to hear 20 people all talking at once about random stuff.

Most have [whitelist] or whitelisted in the description, which you can use in the in-game server filter or in DayZ Commander.

I recommend Dayz Commander if you aren't already using it.

The other thing you can do is browse a short list of servers in the private hive forum, which contains lots of details of the servers and instructions about how to get whitelisted (since each server has a different sign-up process).

You can definitely join the Wireworld TeamSpeak and then use skype with your friends. But the Wireworld TS allows you to create your own temporary channel for you and your friends (and password it if you want to), so I would recommend that instead of using Skype, simply to free-up resources and simplify things.
