wallace71 3 Posted May 20, 2012 would these factions act like squads in regular ARMA? I'm talking about the green diamonds to see where everyone in your squad is, and the diamond with the two chevrons for the leader. would prevent a lot of friendly fire incidents, as IRL you can usually recognize someone you've been traveling with
TeaLeaf 5 Posted May 20, 2012 I don't like these ideas. They add too much structure and order to the game world. I want it to stay brutal and inhospitable. This was exactly my problem with Fallout 3, the game claimed to be post-apocalyptic but everyone acted too damn civilised and civilisation was pretty much restored by the time you enter the world. grom64 8 Posted May 20, 2012 I'd like the idea of factions very much.for a simple start:1. Once you join the faction, your uniform would be in that faction colors/fashion, so any player could see from afar, what faction you belong to.2. Player Names would be visible within the same faction (to a certain distance), so you could see who is who.I'd like that because in real world I can recognize faces, I can recognize the person I know from 50-100m easy.3. optional - Friendly fire/(Murders) within faction could be reported by the server to that faction players. Strategos (DayZ) 190 Posted May 21, 2012 I prefer the way it is now, not knowing and having to communicate your intentions is the basis of the whole games attraction. Seeing someone ALWAYS strikes fear into you. If you can manage to communicate and gain their trust you might team up, they might betray you. Being able to identify their faction at a glance removes some of that uncertainty. Which in most games would be good, but not this one.

I think killing other people just comes to easy, because it's a video game not real life.As it is, right now other people are just ants gathering stuff for murderers.Server gets quickly repopulated and/or players respawn, so there is no real incentive not to shoot other people. You won't end up alone in the world/area with just hordes of zombies. All I'm saying is that in real life we developed social behavior because it pays off in some sense. With factions, you could feel some sort of affiliation to part of the players, at least. So we could simulate those incentives in game. For those interested, You could read on about it:Evolutionary Game Theoryor watch the course entitled "Human Behavioral Biology" from Stanford University - relevant parts here ~30 min. mark*but the whole thing is very worth watching imho.
