So....what exactly is the situation of the world in Day Z

Do we have a defined story as to what exactly caused the infection, how far along the infection is moving, etc?

This is one thing that has been egging me for a bit and now It's time I found out the cause.

It's a mod.

You wake up on the beach and oh shit, there are zombies.

Nobody really knows.

In the DayZ Standalone they are going to reveal the 'storyline' type arc to you if you do a little digging.

There will be various clues and opportunities to find out more through exploring and examining the infection.

We're just going to have to wait and see before there is a canon reason from the developers.

I think the little child in me just let out a squee of joy hearing the word Virologist. ^.^ That is an excellent means of working on a good storyline.

Also yes that does make sense that since the game is still in Mod state, that really there is no storyline atm.

....Which means we need a PLACEHOLDER STORY till then! =D

Now that is a good feature for the SA. Gives us more freedom for those who want to follow the story, or for those who want to just run amok and raise havok.
