Tips for a new DayZ Player?

Recommended Posts

I am very new to DayZ, and I seem to keep getting killed no matter what I do. I was playing along fine and then I found a czech backpack which was great for me as I was holding stuff for a friend who was coming on later. I then found a Bizon hidden under a medical box at the hospital in Elektro. All of a sudden I was getting shot at and got killed by two or three people. I was very sad and I didn't know what to do. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me.

My tip is .. get away from the big towns as fast as you can .. head inland.

You will find enough loot and stuff in the little towns there. :)

When I first spawn I charge to Elecktro, raid the super market, raid the firestation and follow the road north. Spend as little time as possible there.

I usually stay away from any type of large settlement till i have a weapon and some ammo due to snipers and bandits waiting to come and kill you when you enter and try and stay away from airfields especially when they have military barracks due to large areas where a sniper would have a good range to get you and stay away from narrow streets and open court yards in settlements there are usually elevated posiotion away from zombies that bandit like to hide in, i just go through the backyards and try to stick sclose to the tree lines

Do a few runs into towns, get a hang of how you can loose zombies easiest, get faster in your loot handling etc. You will die a few times but once you have it set you can do really fast runs into towns with less risc of being spotted and killed by bandits. Leaving the south coast is also a good tip but if you want any high level gear early it's either the balota military fields, Cherno or Elektro, unless you are lucky with some tents along your way north.

Exactly.Just be a little careful for encounetring other players. There are many other newbies that get shit runnin out of their pants with the sight of a player alone.Find one of these, you'll be dead in no-time.

Also, make sure you're all geared up before heading north, as inspecting crash sites and the airfield are things almost impossible without a good gun.

Oh, btw, now that you're still a newbie, opt for servers with a player count no greater than 10.

run very very fast towards the nearest cover when attacked, try to ascertain location and gun type/s, take a second, get your breath back, check your mag and scream in local 'FRIENDLY, DON'T SHOOT', then charge the nearest enemy firing with extreme prejudice

Also to add, I never ever raid cherno and if I do, it's just the apartment blocks on the edge of the town. I can't bear to get in to that cluster-fuck of a place haha

Never leave the coast without Morphine.

Don't trust other players, unless you know them :P

Find a tent(best place is to check supermarkets). You can loot cycle them(pick everything up, dump it outside) to get one, but loot cycling is a little cheesy. Once you have a tent, place it somewhere it won't be easy to spot. Store some stuff there for when you die and have to restart.

Find a friend to play with. Playing solo can be fun, but this game is 10x better with a friend or more.

Thanks, I will be playing with my friends very shortly :) I just hope I get some ammo for a gun when I pick it up next time :)

Don't climb the rocks at Skalka to get a better vantage point to see the compound to the SW from.

Insta-Death from broken leg and blood loss..

Don't get attached to your gear either.

Most people will tell you to stay away from the two big towns on the coast (Elektro and Cherno).

But I'd suggest you the opposite. You have nothing to lose when you freshly spawned. You can get the basic equipment there, like a bigger backpack, a proper rifle (from the firestations or the school building), some medical supplies (from the hospital), some food (from the shop) and some tools (axe, knife and box of matches) for hunting animals once you get out of the town alive.

After you received all that (which should be done quickly) just run straight out of the town and to the north. Now that you have some basic equipment, survival will be much easier.

Don't try to kill zombies with the lee enfield, it's crazy loud.

You should search the forums for tips for new players there are hundreds of posts with the tips you need.

I always haul ass to Balota airfield, take your time looking for your loot there, there's not much activity around there normally, even on high pop servers. Lots of medical loot and military weapons can be found there. I then head to Cherno, grab what I can from the market and hospital, and then chill in the wilderness raiding deer stands until I need food or water or meds bad enough to head into a city again.

Beware though, I always encounter more players absolutely randomly in the forest than I do traveling to towns or in towns for some reason

Pro-Tip: Don't drive an ATV over railroad tracks or bridges. You will most likely die.

That being said, you can find two of them at Klen Mountain south of Krasnostav. If they are fresh each of them will have a camping tent in their gear.

Remember, stay off the roads, berezino is the safest city, albeit not very safe, NEAF sucks ass, there is almost always an ATV atop the mountain near cherno, double tap when shooting players, smoke grenades are great distractors, and use zombies as a weapon. Try and drive the horde at your target, he wont be able to shoot you and he will usually die or be an easy target as a result.

Happy Hunting

also, there is always someone in the town next to you, even if the probability says otherwise. stay on your toes, assume there is a bandit with an MMG in each town

Is that a bit much?

Try if you can find a small group willing to help newer players out, The group i run on our whitelisted servers go out finding new players, teach them the ropes and then let them loose... always rewarding when you see them take down a bandit or two or even a whole camp, Isn't that right SiiriXX??

Exactly, I personally played first on low-pop servers until I got the hang of everything, only then jumped on tot the bigger ones.

You could play with me, I teach newbies the tips and tricks of DayZ, and at the moment if I squeeze everyone to play there are maybe 6 of us, so If you are interested then add me on Steam: Markus-1997

PS: When I play with my friends I am mostly on servers with max 15 players. More realistic, a decent chance of bandits.
