You are listening to the wrong people Rocket.

Rocket does whatever he feels like he wants tested, get over it and test away!

As for the polls on the forums, feedback is awesome for both arguments and possibly augment the next testing solution.

See the thing is - this game is FOR the hardcore. That's what Arma is at the core...

To make a Zombie apocalypse in Arma means it MUST be hardcore. Granted - I would take a 1911 over a Makarov any day with a few mags to start.

I personally am pleased with the drops - but I do wish animals were a bit more frequent in the world and food was somewhat more scarce. Bodies of water would also be a nice thing to add around the world in a bit more frequency with canned drinks appearing a bit less. That way people would scavenge in villages less and try and live in the world.

I honestly would be a HUGE FAN of having a horde of zombies just roam around the world at any given time. Something along the lines of 200 zombies just heading towards areas of high traffic.

That and dogs/bears/wolves in the woods. With more of them appearing in the middle of the night. :)

It does help if you read posts.

1.7 had a good balance. If High tier was becoming easy' date=' then address high tier. Don't common denominator the entire experience. All this does is make the gap between haves and haves not wider, and punishes the start game.

[/quote']

It's so hard to argue with someone who ASSUMES the premise and then argues to a conclusion. You have absolutely no basis whatsoever to claim these changes were made to "address high tier."

According to this post, he made this change as an experiment to see what the effect would be at ALL tiers. He proposed some possible pros/cons (none of which mentioned "addressing the high tier"), and put the change in the game to see how his predictions played out.

All this bullshit you're complaining about - listening to the wrong people, addressing high tier play, "common denominatoring" etc. you just invented in your head.

It's an elaborate strawman. Buid a reasoning rocket never had and then act like you're a genius for tearing it down.

You had such a good starting balance, it brought a lot of people to the game. Its a shame its gone.

Yes! Too right. I know when I read about the post-apocalyptic, open-world, sandbox PvP zombie game set in an amazing setting and built on a brutally realistic milsim I wasn't sure I wanted to try it out until I heard about the "good starting balance." That really sealed the deal for me.

Seriously though. You're like LOL level at this point.

If the whole axe hint thing goes down as a melee weapon, you might be issued a stick and a crying towel in future patches <3

Melee is a great addition. Got no issues with it. In fact, it should have been there before such fundamental changes were made.

"fix"

The problem is' date=' that's a very objective word.

What I am trying to do, is find the recipe for a fix that [b']I am happy with. That means a considerable amount of experimentation and things will probably get worse before they get better.

Very early in this project, I read something on 4chan that has stuck with me the whole way through development:

> How is it possible that this game is better than any professionally developed game to be released in 2012?

>Goddamn.

By gamers for gamers? Its not a product of bazillion board meetings and marketing studies.

The forums has been a great source of engagement and feedback, BUT, it's starting to remind me of marketing meetings where people can't handle experimental change. Usually, that change gets WORSE before it gets better.

Every update, there is doom and gloom 1.5.0 was the end of the world, so was 1.6.0. People refused to move to them. Now, we have people asking for revert. Such short memories.

The build is not as intended because it is bugged. I've stated that. A hotfix will be produced and will continue to be produced until the build is where it is intended to be. Then it will be assessed on it's merits and a decision made then. I don't give a fuck if, during that process, only five people play it. I don't care if you're not having fun now, cause I certainly aren't, and the build isn't as intended. What I care about is the end result, we just need to bare through this until the hotfix gets the build stable.

Then we assess it.

Until then, constructive feedback is good but people need to stop repeating, and focus on responding only if they have something to add to the discussion.

Id like zombies to be a little harder than they were but I generally agree with the OP. Make zombies a threat without the game being super punishing to everyone. Make it hard if you make lots of noise and make mistakes. Make it maybe necessary to try and band together with players without being stupidly hard to be alone. etc etc. Dont make it easy. Make it fun.

I don't know about you guys, but I have never encountered a night where I CANNOT SEE A THING. If you are going for realism, then lets fix the nights. Also, the fact that I have checked all of cherno and not found a scrap of food and drink, but instead m4 clips in every house just can't be right.

Rocket,

lot of childish Banter in this thread... Rocket your doing good work man. we all love what you have done and how you basically saved the survival horror Genre with this mod. words cant describe man.. keep it up.. we chose to keep 1.7 after testing 1.7.1 on our server. just for reason of the bugs ..not the added content.. we need a little more challenge.. the new patch although harder felt like the zombies were somehow cheating and the immersion was broken.. we actually have a short film director in our group who loves the mod and critiqued its atmosphere before and after. it was too easy to aggro ..

So i think the trick/challenge is how do you make it more challenging "without" breaking the lore of what the living dead should be? keep the challenge and uncertainty but not give things for free ... WELL i think some of us may have figured out a way with the help of my friend.. why not make SOME zombies not all... specific marked zombies be like a flag bearer? or ones that have better site then others instead of all.. So when you come to a clearing you can tactically asses the situation from a far.. like a paranoid zombie with red eyes or something.. that spawns randomly ..

maybe you run into one, maybe you dont, but if you do spot 1 get ready for major stealth and planning or a huge battle..he could spawn in a group of regular 1.7 type zombies and he can and will see you if you mess up... and if he does the rest will become hostile if aggrod ..unless of course you can head shot him quietly? thats key!:) thats the lore we want and the tactical planning we need to take him out of the equation .. 1 thing hopefully you dont miss.. lol or maybe you do and he cant spot you with a sniper rifle and silenced rounds .. .I think this may work and give eveyone what they are looking for.. cheers Rocket hope this helps.. long live Arma and DayZ! Rocket if you see this what are your thoughts?

.....the need to widen the gap between sheep and wolves' date=' across the board, is a mistake. Its what no starting gear has done in practice. Now, High tier is the same, but the start game is almost abusive.

[/quote']

I think you're being too quick to judge the effects of this change, it's not about an immediate game balance, it's about changing people's mindset.

Sure, there are 'High tier' players out there preying on the 'start game' players, but eventually those high tier players will get reset and experience the start game themselves and I think, experiencing it for themselves could start a shift in thinking that takes them away from just killing the 'sheep'.

Also, a lot of changes have been made to zombie behaviour, players that have been reckless are now being caught out. The new play style required to avoid trouble may seem 'abusive' but only in comparison to the way it was before 1.7.1 If it had been like that a few patches ago it wouldn't seem so harsh.

Let the butt-hurt subside and wipe away those tears before drawing your conclusions.

i think hes trolling...

You would be wrong.

Bandits cant kill you in 1.7.1.1 outside of cities*

If they do they'll waste alot of ammo.

Zombies cant kill you in 1.7.1.1

So what are we moaning bout bout 1.7.1.1? :D

I do not understand the issue. I ran into Elektro today, grabbed an AKS-74 Kobra, PDW, medical supplies, and got out. I aggroed 2 zombies on my way out, and dispatched them easily. Aside from those 2 zombies I never attracted any attention, and I crouch ran/walked the entire way through.

You should try the reckless route man, just sprint to where you wanna be and just before you reach it dive thru a building and walk.

It's less time consuming :D

Also less fun.

And less interesting.

But its cool, its alpha, just have to get tweaks made so you can't benny hill though a town and then lose your zombie train by diving behind a tree.

Cos doing that just turns 'hardcore zombie game' into 'chicken run hide'n'seek with retards'.

OP is a faggot.

I hope you tire of this game, it's mod and these forums. Sooner rather than later.
