Fix the backpacks

Recommended Posts

The "Coyote Pack" (really a TMA backpack) has a size of 20"W x 20"H x 9"D. The Czech Pack (AKA 65L pack) is (Taking size from my 65L) 18"W x 27"H x 10"D. As you can see the 65L pack is MUCH bigger and should be so in game. (Hell I can fit an AR-15 (M4 Length) in my 65L, and the only gun I can get in my TMA is my UMP when the stock is folded...) I'm sure with a patch they could edit the Packs and swap them in the loot spawns. Why? Czech is much nicer on the Camo and Soldier clothing and blends in much better compared to the TMA, which again should make it better, and much more rare than the TMA. (BTW the Alice pack is bigger IRL than the TMA as well)

Just my two cents. What do you guys think?

Below is a picture of a 65l Backpack. (sorry no pictures of me with it as its at my friends house as a last chance SHTF bag) And below is a picture of myself with the TMA Pack. As you can see the size difference is HUGE. Plus my pack is filled to the brim! (I'm 6'2)

I wanted to go in more detail and find the exact measurements of items and bag to determine how many slots there should really be, but at least you got the gist of it.

I can't tell you exactly what I have in my 65L. All i know is its enough to last em about 5 days in clothes and something like 8-9 days in food water. However in my FMA, I have my G36 Barrel (extra) Pair of BDU's, two pairs of shirts, underware, socks, etc. 2 pairs of jeans, some ammo, a water bottle and an Extra mag on one of the side pouches and on the other I've got an old red shirt I use for cleaning my blades (which reminds me I have a Machete attached to the side of my pack) and then I have batteries, flashlights and other misc things in the front pouch. I also have a pair of Binocs and 2 HUGE winter jackets... All in the FMA alone. So You could easily fit 24 slots. I think that would be just about right for that backpack (24 canned goods would be just about right in the main compartment. It JUST about holds a 48 pack of Top Ramen (I'll check in the morning.) However, I think no guns should be able to fit in it as it is a relatively short pack However, the Czech? Should have something along the lines of 36 slots or so. I'll see if I can stop by and grab my pack for some better measurements later. :D

More importantly why do you have so many guns? G36, UMP, AR-15? You getting ready to be on the news?

You've clearly never seen Doomsday Preppers.

Or heard of gun enthusiasts for that matter.

What do you mean? Thats not even close to how many guns I have. If you implying I'm going to go on a shooting spree. 99.985% (rounded down) of gun owners, own them responsibly. ;) That means 0.014% of people who own LEGAL guns use them irresponsibly. (that .014% not only counts legal guns but Illegal guns.)

Sure I have a lot of weapons but the only way to defeat tyrants is to bring them down yourself ;)

Leaving the matter aside if a lot more than a few gun owners could be irresponsible gun handlers...

Even if you could fit all that inside a bag you still have to deal with encumbrance...

Nevermind guns, food and clothes, does a Ural engine block fit into a Czech backpack?

My dad was well into guns but he mainly collected handguns and hunting related guns/equipment. I don't know American law, but surely you cannot own fully automatic guns for private use?

Well props to you, hopefully you won't go postal any time soon. Personally, if I found out my neighbor has more guns than the local police department I would be concerned.

That is a fair point. IMO, when you pick up certain heavy bulky items you should have to equip that item. I think it was done to balance the rarity of cars vs repairing them. Still, if there were more spawns but harder to fix I think it would be good.

With an FFA license you can own CERTAIN selective fire weapons, but they tend to be super expensive. The guns you see are all Semi Automatic AKA the civilian versions)

Why would you be concerned? 540277_435177553218542_304302242_n.jpg

However I don't want to get off topic but as you can see, guns aren't the problem its the people.

Pushing items out of the backpack could cause them to disappear. If they didn't I would be on board with this.

See upper post about Irresponsible gun owners.

As for bag encumbrance? I wear my FMA Pack every time I leave my house I take it everywhere with me. Its roughly ~20 lbs IF that. (probably less) and its something you get used to... I walked ~20 miles (probably 17 miles or so) home from my friends house with it on, I didn't notice it until I got home and took it off. :3 And mind you, this i my main GTFO bag, so I never take anything out unless I need it then it goes right back in. Also just for comparison, I'm 6'2 and weigh 140. Can't even bench my own weight... Yet I can carry this pack around with me everywhere. So I don't think Encumbrance is a big deal for Soldiers.

And yes I've walked around with not only my SL8 (G36/10lbs) but my UMP on my back (An extra 5 lb's)

This would be nice I am a huge fan of the czech backpack but its load capacity tends to suck so I trade it out over time.

I do think it is..otherwise they wouldn't try to reduce the weight of equipment, the wouldn't use lighter rifles or use smaller calibers etc...

If you are caught with your pants down with that much weight you are fucked...they usually dump the packs in a safe place before starting a fight if they have a choice. Nobody runs around in a fire fight with 60kg of equipment because he will be winded after 20m. With your weight i assume you aren't that packed with muscles either but 10kg is nothing if carried on your back compared to 60kg on your legs and about 10kg worth of it on your arms ( gun and ammo ) and i don't know how much of that on your shoulders ( body armor ) and about 3kg on the head ( helmet ) - you will be exhausted. When i had weight problem i weighed around 50kg at 1,7m now i have a healthy 65kg and carried a backpack with stuff for a week and a tent and later two other backpacks of our kid boy scouts for hours. I was a bit exhausted afterwards. It's true it's not always about muscle mass...but with too much weight you will become sluggish after a while.

I agree completely, you will be winded during a firefight (My friends have dragged me airsofting quite a few times) and everytime I was, I would drop my backpack if we were setting up in a position for a few minutes or if we were going to ambush the enemy. (wish that was an option in DayZ) I think Backpacks do need to make you run slower and make you loose your run faster (All though, personally I can still sprint just as fast as normal after walking for 2 straight hours, I just can't sprint for as long. But thats just me.)

The Czech backpack should have been the biggest pack in the game. I don't undertsand why Rocket made it the third best. The ALICE pack is visually half the size of the The Czech backpack and yet it can hold 4 more items?

I'd guess making the Czech backpack hold less was done because it has the best camouflage.

In my opinion, the capacities for all storage (vehicles, tents, packs) should be reworked to better reflect volume.

Carry weight/encumberance depends on the survivor rather than his kit. Whether exhaustion will play a part is yet to be seen.

Mind you, there's not much point debating it this close to SA release. We should probably wait and see what we're dealing with in the first build.
