Coyster 1 Posted December 23, 2012 Sometimes when I encounter a zombie and use my hatchet/axe it seems I'm swinging away at the thing for 5 minutes before I actually end up randomly landing a hit. The axe blade just never seems to connect to the zombie (atleast on my screen). However, zombie movement can be rather sporadic, so maybe it's just that.. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) Yes it is.The reason it sucks in the mod is because the Arma2 engine doesn't actually support mele combat. The "axe" is basically a gun, they've had to mess with the settings to get it to act like an axe, but technically, as far as the engine is concerned, it's just a modded gun with a very short range and infinite ammo.This is one of the many reasons the devs moved onto making the SA. It's pointless for them spending months trying to modify an engine to achieve what should be fairly simple behaviours (zombie AI is a good example, that sucks too for the same reason). With the SA they can actually modify the source code, something they've never been able to do with the mod. That is why the SA will have a new inventory system, customisable characters, customisable weapons, melee combat with new melee weapons and lots of other things that simply can't be achieved with a mod.
