Best version: Steam version or Non-Steam version?

Best version:

Steam version or Non-Steam version?

Why should anyone run steam if they can just run Non-Steam + Play withSix?

Really?

The kind of version which is on Steam, but does not require you to log in so you can play it. Kinda like ArmA2/DayZ at the moment.

Steam, all day, every day. It's just uber convenient, and I like the fact that if anything goes wrong, you can usually just validate the integrity of files, and it'll replace specific files to sort your problem out.

Saying that, I do launch via DayZ Commander now but that's only because of the massive improvement on the server browser, and how convenient it makes updating DayZ files/beta's...

There are some problems with Steam and Arma OA though. They are a real bitch to fix. To prevent these problems remember

If you don't run steam as an admin...

your going to have a bad time!

retail DVD version, because it is yours, really yours.

Steam version is not yours, you just lease it, its crap especially when you are an installation fetishist like i am.

Retail version all teh way. I've only ever got two games on steam and they were both non steam games and I'd nothing but trouble with them. Plus I like to have the box and all the trimmings so no way in hell I'll be dling.

valve have said, repeatedly, that should steam ever die all the games you've bought will still be available to you.

no real difference.

If Steam ever dies, but what if my internet dies? Of course I wouldn't be able to play strictly multiplayer games like DayZ anyway, but what about other Steam based games?

Steam version. You don't need steam to run it, but if you do it comes in with a built in auto run.
