More "Tools

Currently, the tool space (which is great, I love having certain items not actually take inventory space) has a bit much space for how many tools there are. Simply put, I want more tools for more specialized purposes. currently we can have just about every tool in the game on our belt (or ALL of them, I'm not sure).

Preferably, there should be items for a lot more things. Such as blood transfusions. Currently you sploosh the bag all over your partner and he gets better. In my mind, we have many tools for medical purposes. Devices for blood transfusions, books to know how to operate said devices/do operations, or whatever else you can think of.

Make the amount of tool enough so that a player on his own can survive on his own just fine, but if in a group, you have more tools amongst you to do things. Giving yourself a sort of engineer class, or medic class, or a mix of the two depending on what you want.

Looking back over this post I realize it's not thoroughly coherent but it's 1 in the morning, so please try to just rollwith what I'm saying.

I could see this sort of working, as long as the gear required for medical use wasn't too rare.

Maybe not even make it required, but maybe more efficient. A bloodbag without equipment might heal you 1/2 or 1/4. But with all the equipment, it puts you at full health.

needles are a huge transmitter of disease and bacteria.. I love the idea.. getting people sick by sharing needles or not treating an open wound.. brilliant!

But seriously, it would allow for specialization:

You'd have gearheads who would carry tools necessary for vehicle repairs and it would allow them to do so more efficienty.

You'd have medics with real medbags for suturing, epi-pens, morphine, blood trans equipment, etc.

You'd have engineers who'd establish bases, set up barbed wire, tank traps, landmines, sandbags, etc etc etc

You'd have comms specialists, who have radios, GPS, rangefinder, compass, map, etc

And of course your run of the mill survivor could carry a hodgepodge of these tools that they need for basic survival. But it would really add to the worldbuilding and community of the game where once you get past the run of the mill survival, you can become a member of "society"

I don't always like specializations.

But when I do, it should be like that. ;)

Nice idea, you can choose many tools to do your work, but not all. This makes teamwork and strategy much more important.

That would me nice, I would also like when you can mix the abilities how you want.

For example a transfusion medic which can also establish bases in a way, so you can mix all tools up how you want. You still have many slots, so you can choose more than a few tools, but not eveything.

I'd also like to specify I use the word "specialization" very loosely. I'm not talking a class based system or anything remotely resembling it. But like how now we have people who are dedicated medics, and dedicated newbie mentors, there'd be an expansion on that. So people who wanted to work on repairing vehicles would do just that. It'd create a society dependent on each other. Now, the assault types would have a reason to defend medics and mechanics because those would be the guys toting out the heavy bulky shit to repair cars.

And now, bandits could focus on taking out a specific set of players. Like there could be a set of bandits specifically dedicated to taking out comms specialists, the guys with maps and gps's and binoculars, dedicated to scoping areas out. That in turn would bring in groups of mercenaries/clans to defend the comms guys (or mechanics, or medics or what have you). And that would again lend to the "society feeling".

Maybe in the long run, you'd have TOWNS of players. Where oh shit, group X controls Cherno and group Y controls elektro. You've got engineers setting up road defenses. Medics making hospital tents. Comms guys scoping shit out. The two groups are fighting for control of docks at Cherno for the industrial loot that spaws there. Think about it!

Screw that I want individual tools that each take up space in pack.I wanna loot around and find an adjustable wrench in some shed and some wire clippers etc in a barn somewhere etc etc.One slot taken for each tool in backpack.More realism the better but if people will start complaining about it removes the ability to carry jerry cans,fuel tanks,tires and heli rotors than at least make a tool pouch that holds them all.Something like this pic below that attaches below your backpack.

Man, you're describing a container that you can put your tools into so they don't take up extra room. Its almost like... like a TOOLBOX or something.

Fire iron, the survival tool where you scrape a stick against a finely serraded surface, would allow you to make small "fingernail fires" to warm you up in the woods, without having to gather wood, would allow you to warm up beans to gain extra heat faster while eating.

Yeah - the idea of some limitation of the amount of tools you can carry for the number (greatly expanded from the current set) of tools available would be a great way to induce grass roots specialisation. It would also force lone wolves to become generalists or specialise at the risk of not being able to do certain activities.

I think the medical system needs significant work (particularly with regards to blood bags and instant heals- http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/110399-medical-system-overhail/page__hl__overhail) but would certainly benefit from some new gadgets as long as they were realistic and useful
